Cases of fraudulant NRI marriages

406. SHRIMATI VIPLOVE THAKUR:

Will the Minister of OVERSEAS INDIAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether a number of complaints/ cases have been received in Indian Missions about fraudulant NRI marriages during each of the last three years and the current year;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the action taken thereon, case-wise; and

(c) the details of the number of cases in which fraudulant overseas spouses were punished/arrested during the said period?

(a)As per information made available to this Ministry by our Indian Missions/ Posts abroad in July 2015, 107 Mission/posts have not received any complaints about fraudulent NRI marriages during each of the three years and the current year.

Twelve Indian Missions have received such complaints/cases.

(b)& (c) Case wise details of complaints received by Indian Missions during the said period, action taken by Missions and number of fraudulent overseas spouses who were punished/arrested are attached. (Annexure-I)
