NEW YORK GLOBAL LAW WEEK
MAY 10 to 13, 2011
The International Section of the New York State Bar Association (“NYSBA International”) is launching an unprecedented initiative this coming May – “New York Global Law Week.”
During the week of May 10-13, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York; the law firms of Baker Hostetler, Chadbourne Park, Cleary Gottlieb, Debevoise & Plimpton, Duane Morris, Hunton & Williams, Jones Day, Patterson & Belknap, Phillips Nizer, Satterlee Stephens, Sullivan & Cromwell, and Tannenbaum Helpern; the New York City Bar Association; the New York County Bar Association and Fordham Law School will all open their doors to attorneys, legal professionals, clients and colleagues from New York and around the world to discuss major issues in the international practice of law, to make and renew professional and personal relationships and connections, and to celebrate the prominence of New York law and New York itself in thecommercial, financial, and cultural life of the world.
Global Law Week will take place at the same time that the Final Report of the Task Force on New York Law and International Matters appointed in 2010 by Stephen Younger, President of the New York State Bar Association, will be released, thus making the occurrence of Global Law Week this year a very timely occasion to shine the spotlight on the New York international legal profession and community.
Kicking off Global Law Week on May 10 will be the third annual Fundamentals of International Practice, NYSBA International's day-long CLE program for both new attorneys and experienced practitioners seeking an overview of the most essential elements of international legal practice. Later that same evening, there will be a reception at the Yale Club planned to honor the contributions of the New York judiciary to the development of the law of international commerce, finance and trade. Global Law Week will conclude on May 13 with a panel on the recommendations of the Task Force at the Great Hall of the New York City Bar Association.
