There were twin girls, Dorothy and Deborah, who grew up on a farm with their dad, mom, and two sisters. Some might have thought the girls were mischieveous, but their mom knew that really they were just eager to learn new things. They helped their daddy on the farm which cultivated an appreciation for country life. They loved school immensely and waited anxiously on the front porch each day for the school bus to arrive.

They were energetic teenagers who studied diligently and participated in a variety of clubs. Both were stars on the high school basketball team and hoped that they would one day play on a college team. Their dreams came true!

After successfully finishing college, they started their careers as teachers and coaches, while balancing being wives and mothers. Both of the twins set goals for their families and careers and lived each day with the faith that their parents, Margaret and Joe Burk had instilled in them.

These young women, now known as Dot and Deb, were never satisfied with mediocrity. Knowing that no one was going to ride up on their white horse to save them, they strove to make situations better. They excelled as educators, never giving up on their students. They saw that the students of Gallatin County could shine as brightly as children in other counties and took pride in their achievements.

Through the years Dr. Perkins and Mrs. Brown have given sacrificially of themselves. Very quietly they have helped people in need, never once wanting praise for reaching out to someone less fortunate. Sometimes, late at night, you’d see lights in their office as they pored over hours of reports and plans. Educating our children and supporting their staff has been more than a dutiful job, but rather a higher calling in their lives.

We have all been blessed by these two amazing ladies and our hope and prayer is that during their retirement, they will indeed live.
