The Early Days
· Beckham was born May 2, 1975
· He was born the second child of
three and has two sisters, Lynne
and Joanne.
· His mom, Sandra, was a hairstylist,
and his dad, Ted, was a repairman.
· They were a middle class, East
London family.
Childhood
· In 1986, Beckham won the Bobby
Charlton Soccer Schools National
Skills competition.
· Manchester United requests that
Beckham tries out for their youth
league after he impresses them in his
neighboorhood club, Ridgeway Rovers.
· When his mom told him, he “just stood
there and cried”
Living the Dream
· In 1991, at age 16, Beckham
leaves home to play for Manchester
United.
· Made the starting lineup in
1995.
· Beckham was voted, in 1997,
the Professional Footballers’
Association Young Player of the Year.
· In 1997, Becks signs deal with Adidas.
· Becks meets Posh Spice, they fall in love.
Career
· In January of 1998, Beckham
proposes to Posh.
· Becks is ejected out of a second-round
World Cup match for kicking another
player. His team then loses the game in
penalty kicks. Becks receives death threats
and letters with bullets in them.
· In 1999, Posh gives birth to a son,
Brooklyn Joseph.
· In July, the couple throw an
$800,000 wedding.
Hero
· Becks is appointed Captain
for England in 2000.
· Beckham was named BBC’s
Sports Personality of the year in
2001.
· In 2002, Beckham scored a last
minute goal to qualify England
for the World Cup.
· Second son, Romeo, is born in
2002.
A Bad Year
· In April of 2002, Becks breaks
a bone in his left foot.
· In November, 5 people were arrested
for attempting to kidnap Victoria
Beckham and the two sons for a
$7.5 million ransom. Becks vows to
update security in his mansion.
Changes
· Beckham is aquired by Real Madrid
· Becks recieves an OBE from
Queen Elizabeth.
· In 2004, Beckham is accused by
the press of having affairs with
several women. Beckham describes
it as ludicrous.
More Changes
· In 2005, Beckham opens the
David Beckham Academy for
younger kids to learn the skills
that he learned.
· The England team dropped him
as a player.
· Posh and Becks move to LA in
order to help Posh pursuit her
dreams in fashion and because
Beckham wasn’t getting much
Playing time at Real Madrid. He
signs with LA Galaxy in 2007.
New Life
· After his debut game in
July of 2007, a few celebrities
throw a welcoming party for
Becks.
· In August, Becks and Posh pose
in some photos for W magazine.
Odd New Start
· A few weeks after his first
game, Beckham has to sit out
of the Galaxy because of a
sprained ligament in his knee.
He was very frustrated.
· Beckham poses in Emporio
Armani mostly nude in 2008.
It raises much controversy.
