FrontPage Introduction
NOTE: Use a soft return (<SHIFT> <ENTER>) to accomplish single spacing. <ENTER> alone produces double spacing in FrontPage.
Create Your Home Page
- If necessary, copy the Web folder from the Faculty Information folder to your own network folder. You are now ready to personalize your home page.
- Open FrontPage and choose File Open Web.
- Navigate to and select (click once on) the Web folder which is inside your network folder.
- Click Open.
- Back in FrontPage, click on the Folders icon in the Views Bar at the left of the window.
- Double click on index.htm in the right pane.
- Personalize this page with your own information as follows:
- Full Name= your full name (first name first)
- Skip e-mail address for now – See below for linking this to your e-mail address.
- 908-647-5555 ext. ???? = School phone number including extension of your voicemail
- Title/Department/Level = whichever of these that apply.
e.g. Teacher/History Department, or Teacher/1st Grade or Department Head and Teacher/History Department or Teacher/English and History Department, etc.
- In the left pane, if necessary, change Courses to Course Description(s)
- Also in the left pane, replace First, Second, Third (or Class1, Class2, Class3) with the names of the courses you teach.
- In the right pane, replace Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 with the names of the classes for which you want to create web pages.
- Remove any other text you wish removed from the page.
- Save the page as you work on it with File Save. DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME. This page must be named index.
Createan E-mail Link
- Replace the text e-mail address with your Pingry e-mail address.
- Select the text you just typed, right click on it, and chooseHyperlink from the shortcut menu.
- Select E-mail address in the Link to column at the left side of the window.
- In the Text to display box,if necessary, type the.text that you highlighted on the previous page.
- In the E-mail address box, type your Pingry e-mail address.
- Click OK.
Save a Picture from the Internet as a File
- If you find a picture or clip art on the Internet that you wish to place on your page, right click on it and choose Save Picture as.
- Navigate to and open the images folder INSIDE YOUR WEB FOLDER
- In the File name box enter a name for the image.
- Click Save.
Note: if you scan an image to use, or you are using an image obtained in another way, just make sure that a copy of the image is placed in the images folder INSIDE YOUR WEB FOLDER. Thenfollow the instructions below for inserting the image.
Insert a Saved Picture File
- InFrontPage, place the insertion point where you wish the image to appear.
- Choose Insert Picture From File.
- Navigate to the images folder IN YOUR WEB FOLDER where the image has been saved.
- Select the file by clicking once on it, and choose Insert.
- To resize the image, select the image by clicking once on it.
- Bring the mouse pointer to the bottom right corner of the image until you can see the diagonal double arrow pointer.
- Click and drag with the arrows pointer toward the top left until the image is resized as needed.
Give Your Home Page a Title
- Right click on empty white space on your page.
- Choose Page Properties.
- Enter a title for your page in the Title box.
- Choose OK.
This title will appear when a user places your page in aFavorites or Bookmarks folder.
Opening your web page for future work.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!
- Open the FrontPage program.
- Before you open a web, ensure that one is not already open. Click on Folders in the View Bar. If a list of files/folders appears in the right pane, choose FileCloseWeb.
- Now that FrontPage is clear, Choose FileOpen Web.
- Navigate to the web folder you will be using [Data Drive (My Documents) vs. Network Drive(Server at Pingry)]
- When you see your Web folder, do NOT double click on it!!! When you choose Open Web from the FrontPageFile menu you are choosing to open the entire Web folder, not just a particular page.
- Select the Web folder (click ONCE on it) and click Open.
- When you are returned to FrontPage click on the Folders icon in the Views bar at the left of the window.
- In the right pane, double click on the page you want to open.
Notes:Navigate back and forth from the Folders view to the Page view by clicking the appropriate icon in the Views bar.
To open a page, double click on the page name in the right pane of the Folders view.
Additional Notes:
- IF YOU WANT TO WORK ON YOUR WEB PAGE AT HOME, YOU WILL HAVE TO COPY YOUR WEB FOLDER ON TO YOUR LAPTOP HARD DRIVE BEFORE YOU GO HOME. (see next page)
- WHEN YOU RETURN TO SCHOOL, YOU WILL MOVE IT BACK TO THE NETWORK. (see next page)
- BE VERY CAREFUL THAT YOU ONLY HAVE ONE WEB FOLDER AVAILABLE AT ANY GIVEN TIME SO YOU ARE SURE WHICH ONE IS BEING UPDATED.
- BE SURE TO CHOOSE Close Web FROM THE File MENU BEFORE CLOSING FrontPage

Copying your Web folder from Network to desktop
- From your desktop, double click My Computer.
- In the Network Drives section of the right pane, double click your network drive.
- In the right pane, click ONCE on your Web folder.
- Choose Copy this Folder from the File and Folder Task list in the left pane.
- Using the scroll bar, scroll up in the Copy Items window until you see Desktop at the top of the list.
- Click ONCE on Desktop and choose Copy.
- A copy of your Web folder will be placed on your desktop and a copy will remain in your network folder
Moving your Web folder from desktop back to Network
- From your desktop, double click My Computer.
- Click and hold the blue arrow at the top right (to the left of the Goarrow) and scroll up to choose Desktop.
- In the right pane, click ONCE on your Web folder.
- Choose Move this Folder from the File and Folder Task list in the left pane.
- From the Move Items window, click ONCE on your network folder and choose Move.
- Choose Yes to All.
- Your Web folder on the network will be updated and removedfrom the desktop.
