Using the Scientific Calculator

This lesson is to familiarize you with some of the functions for the embedded scientific calculator. It does not contain all calculator capabilities.

For help at any time press the letter H with the spacebar, this will bring up context sensitive help files.

Enter KeyPlus from the main menu by pressing S,

,

or from anywhere by pressing Space with dots 2,3,5 then the letter S. Pressing the Spacebar with dots 2,3,5 will always bring up the Task Menu, which allows you to switch to any function wanted (such as word processor, or address list).

· All numbers are entered as Nemeth code.

For PLUS, press dots 3,4,6.

For MINUS, press dots 3,6 (hyphen).

For MULTIPLY, press dots 1,6. The multiply sign is displayed as dot 4, followed by

dots 1,6.

For DIVIDE, press dots 4,6 (slash). The divide sign is displayed as dots 4,6 followed by dots 3,4.

Press ENTER, for “Equals”, and KeyPlus displays the answer.

Press the Spacebar with dots 3,5,6, to clear the calculator. Starting a new calculation also clears the calculator.

To review the calculation with the braille display, press the Previous and Next keys together.

To review the calculation with speech, Press the Spacebar with dots 1,4.

To hear the last number or operator entered, press the Spacebar with dots 2,5.

To enter a left parenthesis, press dots 1,2,3,5,6.

To enter a right parenthesis, press dots 2,3,4,5,6.

To enter a negative number, press the Spacebar with dots 3,6.

To enter the percent operator, press dots 1,4,6.

To calculate a 20% mark-up on 56, type: 56 + 20% which gives the result 67.2

To calculate what percentage 17 is of 20, type:17 20% which gives the result 85.

That is 17 is 85% of 20.

To calculate 30% of 180, type:180 30% which gives the result 54.

The “square root” symbol is dots 3,4,5.

To calculate the square root of the sum of 3 squared plus 4 squared,
