1981 - Aladdin
We honour those who took part in the last Renmore Panto that was staged in the Jesuit Hall in 1981. Packed houses greeted ‘Aladdin’ for nine performances. Admission was €1.90 & €0.95.
Ann Sands choreographed the dancerswith Conn Ó Ceallaigh credited for the ‘DiscoRoutine’. Rebecca Barlett directed Principals, Triona GlynnJimmy Higgins were Musical Directors and Joe McCarthy Producer/Director.
Denis Quilty struck terror as the evil ‘Ebenezer’ assisted by his henchman Liam Belton.
Eamonn Carr Michael Holian were the comedy duo ‘Mike’ ‘Ike’.
Michael Fitzgerald played ‘Aladdin’ with Jacinta Kenny as his ‘Princess Rose Petal’.
Aladdin’s mother was the unsinkable ‘Dame’ Gerry Ferguson.
Others to adorn the Principal Roles were Stephanie O’Boyle (Aladdin’s sister), Tom Duggan(Leprechaun), Mairead Glynn (Genie of the Ring), John Duggan (Landlord), Maeve Canavan (Russian Waitress), J.P.Bohan (Big Fella), Cliona McDonnell (Ballet Dancer), Jimmy Higgins (Trumpeter) and Cepta Byrne (villager).
A large Choral/Dancing Group added lustre to the show. They included Ann Sands, Cepta Byrne, Mary Stankard, Tracey Holian, Helga Junold, Sigrid Junold, Dympna Shapiro,Noreen Molloy,Paula Gaffney,Carole Cawley,Gina Kelly,Evelyn Prendergast, PaulaKing,Conn Ó Ceallaigh, Ruairí Ó Ceallaigh,Coilín Ó Ceallaigh, Fiachra Ó Ceallaigh, John Moylan, Paul Holloway, John Kelly, J.P.Bohan, Noel Leahy, and Pat Fell.
‘The Chitty Bangers’were young teenagers Annette Flatley, Caroline Duane, Terri Fitzgerald, Caroline Ward, Niamh McCarthy, Mary Fay, Annette Nugent, Helen Kineen, Lisa Kennedy, Carol Jordan, Carmel Garvey, Noemi Gavin, Dorothy Kelly, Deirdre Horan, Patrick Kelly, Enda Quain, Gerard Murphy, Gregory Cawley, Diarmuid Leen.
The Tiny Tot Renmore Smurfs were Olivia Lynch, Lorraine Duane, Caitríona Duggan, Judith Higgins, Clodagh Lynch, Rosanna Clabby, Evelyn Ryder, Lorraine Mongan, Nessa Cawley, Emer McCarthy, Lorraine Hughes, Ann Conneely, Orina Belton, Leighanna Wright, Fiona Duggan, Aisling McCarthy, Deirdre Cassidy & Olga Lynch (photo page 60).
The 90-strong Scoil Chaitríona School Band was conducted by Padraic O’Grady, Virginia O’Mahony and Enda Kilbane.
Harmony Pit Singers were Sile Glynn, Laura Gaughan, Susan Gaughan, Elaine Prior, Sean & Brian Power (photo page 60).
The home grown Renmore Panto Orchestra includedTriona Glynn Jimmy Higgins, Michael D’Arcy, Mick O’Toole, Stephen Conneely and Noel Fury.
Len Wright (sets) was helped by Padraig Molloy and Paddy Doherty. Gearóid Hartigan (lights) had Fr Eamonn Dermody on follow spot. Mary Loughnane (wardrobe) got assistance from Renmore ICA, Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe, the cast & their mothers. Betty & Noel Quirke (make-up), Liam Belton (photographs), Mary Stankard (secretarial) and Ann Duggan (advertising) all contributed to the overall success of 1981.
