Friends and Families of Emerson,

It has been exciting year so far watching the students grow academically, socially and physically. It’s amazing how time flies when learning and making new friends take the center of our attention.

I was happy to see many families at Emerson’s Parent Teacher Conferences and the Emerson Variety Show. To hear and see your child’s achievements and talents, as well as set new goals or try something new are wonderful celebratory events in the life of a child. The buzz in the lunchroom after conferences and the variety show was heart warming.

Our students have grown in the past couple of months. I, too, am amazed with my own children’s growth spurts. I was one of those parents happy that some stores were open until 10pm on the first snowfall in order to purchase new boots and jackets for my own children! Now with twins in HIGH SCHOOL, I am searching for the parental tools to persuade them to wear boots and hats! With the cold months upon us, please remember dress your child for the weather, appreciate the elementary years and when possible, label everything.

Remember ongoing communication between home and school is critical in order to maximize our students’ potential. You are always welcomed to share celebrations, concerns or questions you may have regarding your child’s learning. Together we can work on having your child feel and be successful.

Happy New Year!

Karen Kepler

Emerson Receives Generous Community Support

Emerson Parent Teacher Organization and Families Donate Time and Money

Through the efforts of many PTO families, Emerson staff and students are able to explore many new experiences due to field trip funds and grants provided through our Emerson PTO. In addition, our PTO Events Planning Committee provides support and organization with our night time family events.

Emerson Variety Show Another Hit because of Community Support!

Barbara Chusid, Emerson Music Teacher, providedPA, lights and wireless microphone to keep us all in “1,2,3 check, check” perfect sound for our 3rd Annual Variety Show.

T.R. Loon snapped amazing photos of our “truly” amazing acts of talent!

DPI Fruits and Veggie Grant provided an after show celebratory snack of salsa and fruit.

Many Emerson staff spent countless hours organizing, rehearsing and decorating for a successful show. Without them……the show would not have gone on…….thank you.

Scholastic Book Fair a Success!

Thanks to many families who purchased books during Parent Teacher Conference Day, wewere able to purchase over 1,600 dollars worth of books for our school library. Many thanks and happy reading for all!

Campbells Labels for Education Redemption: The labels that were collected for last school year went to purchase another roller racer for Specialized Physical Education. This scooter like item uses all arm power to move around the gym. Students who have a gross motor delay use these roller racers at the end of each class. They are a favorite and can also be incorporated into the general PE classes as we collect more in our inventory.

As of December, we have collected over 6,000Labels for Education and will purchase another Roller Racer for Emerson students!

Keep clipping all the General Mills Box Tops, Campbell’s Labels for Education, and milk caps to enrich our students’ lives at Emerson.

Sincerely, Kitty Erdman-EmersonPE

Stars of the Week

Each week you will see a new group of Emerson Stars of the Week displayed in the showcase at the top of the stairs as you enter our school. This includes a photograph of each Star and a brief description of why the student was chosen. Stars are acknowledged by classroom and specials teachersbased on a variety of criteria including academic performance, good citizenship, positive attitude, cooperation with others and leadership. On Mondays during morning announcements, Mrs. Kepler reads the Star information so the entire school can celebrate every one of our shining Emerson Stars of the Week.

Past “Stars of the Week” are on display in the school cafeteria. All stars of the week will be distributed at the end of the school year for you to display your “stars” in your very own home

Congratulations to Emerson’s Stars (Nov./December)of the Week
