A two-pass tube, baffled single pass shell, shell-and-tube heat exchanger is used to cool down hot methanol. Cooling water flows through the tubes at 25 oC and a flow rate of 30 kg/s. Methanol enters the shell side at 90 oC and should leave at 60 oC with flow rate of 30 kg/s. Perform a detail design for this exchanger to determine the required surface area of this exchanger for the following cases:
Note that:
· you should have a valid design where 0.15<Shell diameter/Length<0.25
· A pressure drop across each of the shell and tube to be less than 0.75 atm.
· Use splint ring, floating head heat exchanger.
