BOARD MEETING: Jan. 14, 2010- 5:30-7:00 Cuc Tran
NEXT BOARD MEETING WILL BE MARCH 4TH, 5:30 PM AT CUC TRAN.

AGENDA & COMMENTS
1. Membership status: 36 total on mailing list with 22 local members. Need e-mails for Margaret Gundersen, Betsy Peirce, Larry Scharps, Mary Scheibler, Lisa Therrell.
For Jan., we mailed hardcopy flyers 2 weeks prior and will send 1-week prior e-mail flyer. ISSUE: What is our plan for future mailings and e-mail? REVIEWED CURRENT AND PAST MEMBER LISTS FOR POSSIBLE FOLKS TO RECEIVE INFO AND JOIN. DECIDED TO CONTINUE HARDCOPY MAILING UNTIL WE HAVE A GOOD AND COMPLET EMAIL LIST. PEOPLE CAN OPT OUT OF EMAIL IF THEY WISH. HAVE 20-SOME LOCAL MEMBERS ON LIST.
2. Calendar of Events
Jan 21 – workshop – Penstemons (Julie Sanderson), Weeds (Terry Lillybridge) SUSAN SENT OUT FLYER ON THE 4TH OF JANUARY TO ADVERTISE THIS EVENT. FLYER IS ATTACHED AT THE END OF THIS DOCUMENT.
Late-Jan: Press release for March 18- for Museum, Aububon, CDLT, Master Gardner, Wenatchee Outdoor newsletters and Wenatchee World, KOHO, KPQ,
Feb. 18, 6-9 PM at museum- winter social (announced on Jan. flyer) DECIDED TO CHANGE TIME TO A 6:30 START INSTEAD OF 6PM. WILL NEED TO GET THERE BY 6PM TO SET UP. PAM WILL GET FINGER FOOD, DRINKS A LIQUOR LICENSE. IDEA IS TO HAVE SOME WINE AND BEER WITH FINGER FOOD. THOT IT WOULD BE RESONABLE TO HAVE ABOUT ONE HOUR TO MINGLE AND ONE HOUR FOR PROGRAM. SUSAN WILL GET NAME TAGS FOR PARTICIPANTS.
SOME IDEAS FOR PROGRAM INCLUDED SLIDES OF “SPRING IN THE FOOTHILLS” USING THE CHELAN-DOUGLAS LAND TRUST CD OF PLANT IMAGES. ANOTHER IDEA INCLUDED REVIEWING SOME OF THE WEBSITE/DIGITAL RESOURCES AVAILABLE FOR PLANT FOLKS INCLUDING: BURKE MUSEUM SITE; USING THE XID SOFTWARE TO ID PLANTS; GOING TO THE USDA PLANTS DATABASE ONLINE;
ALSO, BOARD MEMBERS WILL BRING FAVORITE BOTANY BOOKS FOR SHOW AND FOLKS CAN COMMENT ON AN ADJACENT SHEET OF PAPER ABOUT WHAT THEY LIKE ABOUT THOSE BOOKS. TERRY WILL BRING THE 5 VOLUME AND CONDENSED HITCHCOCK VERSIONS. PAM WILL BRING SOME LOMATIUM SPECIMENS FOR FOLKS TO PERUSE.

Mar. 16- A Sense of Wonder (Rachel Carson Film) Co-sponsor of Wen. Valley Environmental Film Series, 7 PM (need 2-3 greeters, staff info. Table)
Mar. 18- Guest Speaker: Wendy Gibble, Center for Urban Horticulture, U. of W. Rare Care Program Lead- Endemics of Wen. Valley. No-host Dinner with Wendy at 5 PM (where?)
April 17- State WNPS Board Meeting, Ellensburg
Apr. 25- May 1- National Native Plant Awareness Week
May 21-23- State Study Weekend, North Bend, WA
ALSO DISCUSSED EVENTS PLANNED FOR “FLOOD FEST” AT SUN LAKES STATE PARK ON JUNE 25-27. DECIDED WE WERE TOO BUSY TO GET INVOLVED THIS YEAR.

Spring Hikes and Dates: SOME OF THESE HIKE WILL BE BY RESERVATION THRU THE CHELAN-DOUGLAS LAND TRUST.
Ted Alway- Cactus walk (BABCOCK BENCH) IN APRIL AND POSSIBLY WEDGE MOUNTAIN IN JULY.
HORSELAKE TRAIL WITH PAM AND TERRY—AN EVENING—5:30-7:30 ON MAY 3RD.
Julie- Lake Clara??? PROBABLY LATE JUNE.
Earth Day on Jacobson Preserve, Sunday April 18 – staff a botany activity? SUSAN WILL PARTICIPATE.
HORSELAKE—WILL HAVE A LATE JUNE FORAY TO UPDATE AND VALIDATE THE CURRENT PLANT LIST. THIS WILL BE A WORKING TRIP AND NOT FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
Special Projects:
- Field Check the Foothills Wildflower list (WILL PLAN TO DO HORSELAKE AS NOTED ABOVE).
- April 25- May 1- National Native Plant Awareness Week- Brainstorm activities: Consider having Mayor sign a proclamation (other chapters do this); 4-6 newspaper articles featuring a wildflower (members write); Local botany project- possibly field check Foothills plant list, guided walks??
NOTE: BOARD DISCUSSED ANDY DAPPEN'S REQUEST TO DO 2 ARTICLES/YEAR FOR THE WENATCHEE OUTDOORS PAPER. THOT WE COULD DO THAT. TERRY COULD DO ONE ON WEEDS IN THE COUNTY.
