Background
Please Touch Museum, the Children’s Museum of Philadelphia (PTM) was founded in 1976 and was the first children’s museum to focus exclusively on young children ages birth to seven. PTM is multidisciplinary, providing exhibits and programs in the visual and performing arts, including theater, music and dance, literacy, humanities, math and science. PTM’s exhibits are themed environments that are hands-on and interactive helping children to learn, develop and practice the skills and social skills they need to be ready for and successful in school and in future careers. The mission of Please Touch Museum is to enrich the lives of children by providing learning experiences through play. In 2008 PTM moved to Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park, a National Historic Landmark Building built for the 1876 Centennial Exhibition.
Position Summary:The Program Coordinator creates and executes multi-faceted educational programs and activities for young children, youth and teens, their families, and groups. Design programs to reach all audiences including nontraditional museum audiences and/or underserved populations. Responsibilities include but not limited to: assist in the coordination of the museum’s teen program (ACES) with the ACES lead coordinator; assist with museum partnerships with organizations and institutions; train gallery facilitators, interns, and volunteers on museum programming; assist with the development of new/innovative programming that includes digital and hands-on initiatives related to varied educational disciplines and museum initiatives onsite and offsite.
Essential Functions:
• Design and implement comprehensive educational play experiences for museum audiences;
• Assist in the coordination of the Museum’s teen program (ACES). This includes but not limited to: planning, developing, scheduling & recruiting the program;
• Provide a regular programming presence on gallery floor and/or offsite;
• Ensure museum programming is inclusive and accessible;
• Act as role model for adult visitors to encourage open-ended child-directed play
• Organize and maintain programming supplies and areas;
• Track assigned spending, budgets, and supplies;
• Coordinate schedules for gallery floor, and outreach activities and events
• Assist with the development of new/innovative programming related to varied educational disciplines and museum initiatives (e.g. School Readiness, Living Laboratory) that include new educational technology and analog delivery systems;
• Generate new ideas for possible partnerships, grants, sponsorship, and programming;
• Train gallery facilitators, interns, and volunteers on museum programming;
• Assist in departmental and divisional administrative duties as assigned including evaluation of programs;
• Assist with museum partnerships with organizations and institutions; Assist with grant proposals and reports;
• Act as Point of contact and department representative for committees, events, and programs as assigned;
• Attend all training sessions and staff meetings and provide feedback on departmental issues,
• Maintain an ongoing interest in learning about and keeping up to date with Museum exhibits and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree required, preferred field of study: Education, Museum Studies, Urban Studies, Youth Development;
• Minimum of 1 year experience working with teens in a formal and/or informal setting;
• Minimum of one-year experience teaching children aged 0-8 in a formal and/or informal setting; museum experience preferred
• Demonstrates experience in program and curriculum design required
• Must be comfortable and proficient leading programs for large and small groups of both children, teens and adults.
• Experience with public speaking, group trainings, conference presentations, and/or performance strongly preferred
• Proven ability to work with underserved populations or communities
• Proven excellent time management and project management skills required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
• CPR and First Aid training preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel locally required.
• PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI fingerprinting.
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
