CASPAS Meeting

October 18, 2006

Meeting was called to order at 5:15 p.m.

Attended: Cean Smalls, Lori Meier, Emilee Refvem, Ashley Fowers, Derk-a-Derk-a-Derk (Derk Stephens), Kim Wegner, Ben Radakovich, Wade Harper, Nate Hespelt, Annie Murphy, Natalie Stone, Betsy Cowin, Marcela Pattinson, Eva Gut, Christy Schwartz

Minutes from October 11, 2006 were passed. Clarification on minutes was room 204 is designated as a group counseling room, and when not in use, it can be a CASPAS hang out.

  1. Fundraiser.
  2. Most of the class buys drinks and snacks from the machine.
  3. Want to have a small refrigerator to store beverages and a box of snacks.
  4. Paying for the beverages and snacks would be on the honor system.
  5. People need to recommend what kinds of beverages and snacks they would like.
  6. Lori is going to donate a coffee maker. Emilee is going to donate coffee (Starbucks) and a grinder.
  7. Find somebody to donate a refrigerator or find one through surplus.
  8. Money made from this will go towards travel, birthday celebrations, and decorations.
  9. It was passed to have the beverages and snack box.
  1. Silent Action - Fundraiser.
  2. Tom Fairchild was contact by the Cactus Pete’s Resort and Casino in Jackpot, Nevada. They want to donate a stay at the resort to the CASP program.
  3. Look into having the silent action for this item at the ISPA Conference during spring semester.
  4. We can also see about coming up with other items for the silent action.
  5. Marcela is going to donate a necklace and earrings for the action (need to let her know when she needs to have them made by).
  1. Sweatshirt.
  2. Emilee went to Shirt Shack and was quoted $10.50 for the print and $16.00 for the sweatshirt. This price seems high so she is going to call back to get another quote.
  3. Emilee is going to look into other places to compare prices.
  4. Lewiston group is going to check with Idaho Impressions.
  1. Conference.
  2. There is a one day conference, Effective Strategies for Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Clients: Practical Approaches for Clinical Work.
  3. The conference is held on December 15, 2006 in Spokane, Washington.
  4. The price is $60.
  5. This conference will help you gain experience on working with gay, lesbian, and bisexual clients. You will learn to avoid the 15 common errors clinicians make with GLB clients. Learn the top 10 skills that enhance competence with GLB clients.
  6. The flyer about the conference will be posted on the CASPAS board if you want more information.
  1. Meeting Times and Dates.
  2. There has been some concern that some people can’t come to the 2:00 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. meeting times. There is also concern about the day.
  3. If we keep the 5:30 meeting time, we might have it at a different location in Moscow.
  4. There was a suggestion to have the meeting on Tuesday at 4:30 or 5:00 every other week when the role play group is not meeting.
  5. Another suggestion was having the meeting every other week once the major issues have died down.
  1. Social Event.
  2. We will be meeting after the 509/510 class for a social event.
  3. We will be meeting on Tuesday at the Ale House at 5:00 p.m.
  4. As of right now for CASPAS meeting, we will be meeting on Tuesday but Natalie will let us know about having a meeting on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
  1. Farmers Market.
  2. The Farmers Market: November 4, November 11, and December 2.
  3. If anybody wants to sell items or donate items, contact Marcela.
  1. Mental Health Training
  2. There is a free training on mental health and working with children.
  3. April 17 in CDA and April 18 in Lewiston.
  4. Pre-registration is required.
  5. This information will be posted on the CASPAS board if you want more information.

  1. Faculty Meeting Issues.
  2. Talk about room 204 and when administration is going to give their consideration for designating it as a group counseling and CASPAS room.
  3. Finalized times for next semester classes.
  4. Hiring adjunct members that go beyond the book information and learning how to use things instead of about things.
  5. EDSP 520 is a hard class to take on-line and would be helpful as a regular class. See about being able to giving an option if we want to take a certain class on-line.
