2014Speech Contest
Attention all high school orators!
On behalf of the Delaware Rotary Club, I invite you to enter our 2014Four-Way Test Speech Contest. The competition will be held onWednesday, April 9, 7:00 p.m.,at Willow Brook at Delaware Run on West William Street in Delaware.
The contest is open to all high school students, freshmen through seniors, from the following schools:
- BuckeyeValleyHigh School
- Delaware Area Career Centers
- DelawareChristianSchool
- DelawareHayesHigh School
- Home-schooled students within the area
- Rotary foreign exchange students
We are asking you to compose a speech applying the Rotary Four-Way Test to everyday relationships. This is the Rotary statement of principle, recited each week at the start of thousands of Rotary meetings around the world. Be as creative as you want. A panel of judges will choose the winners – first, second, and third places. And, there are cash prizes!
Complete the registration form and return it on or beforeMonday, April 7. I look forward to hearing some inspiring speeches!

Regional Contest: The first-place winner of the Delaware contest will participate in the regional Rotary contest.

Who:First, second, and third place winners of the Delaware contest, with
their parents and either the speech/English teacher or principal from each school. The three winners will receive their cash prizes, and will present their speeches to the club after lunch.

Of the things we think, say, or do…
A. Is it the TRUTH?
B. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
C. Will it BUILD GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
D. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
- Eligibility
Any high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior, except a student who has won a previous State Four-Way Test Public Speaking Contest, from the following schools:
- BuckeyeValleyHigh School
- Delaware Area Career Centers
- DelawareChristianSchool
- DelawareHayesHigh School
- Home-schooled students within the area served by the schools listed above
- Rotary foreign exchange students
- Rules of the Speech
SUBJECT: Applying the Rotary Four-Way Test in everyday relationships with other people.
DELIVERY: Speeches must be given by memory without the use of note cards.
LENGTH OF SPEECH: The speech should be no less than five minutes in length nor more than seven minutes. The speaker will be signaled at five and six minutes.
SPEECH CONTENT: The speech given by each contestant must be original in content and relate as much as possible to the lives of the age group of the contestant.

First Place $250; Second Place $150; Third Place $75. $25 gift card for other participants.
