Goals:
- Trace the development of the American Wind Band and become familiar with the standard literature of the symphonic band.
- Become familiar with literature that is appropriate for secondary school band instruction.

All Written work must be turned in the day it is due. The grade will be lowered one grade for every day it is late.
DISHONESTY STATEMENT
The UNT Code of student Conduct and Discipline provides penalties for misconduct by students, including academic dishonesty. Academic dishonesty includes cheating and plagiarism.
The term "cheating" includes, but is not limited to (1) use of any unauthorized assistance in taking quizzes, tests or examinations;' (2) dependence on the aid of sources beyond those authorized by the instructor in writing papers, preparing reports, solving problems or carrying out other assignments; or (3) the acquisition, without permission, of tests or other academic material belonging to a faculty member or staff of the university.
The term "plagiarism" includes, but is not limited to, the use, by paraphrase or direct quotation, of the published or unpublished work of another person without full and clear acknowledgement. It also includes the unacknowledged use of materials prepared by another person or agency engaged in the selling of term papers or other academic materials.
Penalties:If you engage in academic dishonesty related to this class, you will receive a failing grade on the test or assignment, and a failing grade inthe course. In addition, the case will be referred to the Dean of Students for appropriate disciplinary action.

A 5-7 page paper giving a biography of the composer, a complete list of band works and stylistic characteristics that would identify them from other band composers. In addition, you should choose one of the top compositions of the composer and give a rehearsal analysis of the piece. This analysis can (and should) follow the format of the Teaching Music Through Performance in Band.
OR
Choose an event from the history of the wind band and present new information about that event. The paper should be 5-7 pages. You may choose an event that is discussed in class or you may choose one on your own. If you choose a new event, please clear that topic with the professor.
Use the list of composers given below. Any other composer must be cleared with Dr. Ramsey.
