REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

Special recognitions were made by the Superintendent and Board for the following:

Teacher of the Year – The 2011-2012 school winners were awarded plaques and monetary incentives:

·  Patricia Ann Moye Ridgeland Elementary School

·  Janice Bryant Hardeeville Elementary School

·  Berthenia Kinlaw Ridgeland Middle School

·  Denyce Sanders Hardeeville Middle/High School

The District Teacher of the Year Winner will be announced on Friday, March 18, 2011 at a special breakfast for the winners.

Senator for the Day – Four students were recognized for this prestigious honor and were presented with plaques and Wal-Mart gift cards:

·  Bre’Anna Orr (Winner) Ridgeland High School

·  Tamekia Daniels (1st Place) Hardeeville/Middle High School

·  Ainsley Daley (2nd Place) Thomas Heyward Academy

·  Tanisha Green-Baker (3rd Place) Ridgeland High School

Congratulations to all of our winners!

The audit firm of Elliott Davis presented the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report of the Jasper County School District for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 2010. This is the first year that the school district’s audit has been conducted by this firm.

Cassandra Jennings, Principal of Ridgeland High School, shared information with the Board on the School Improvement Grant her school will be submitting by March 25th.

The Jasper County Board of Trustees conducted an interim evaluation of the Superintendent’s performance during the first six months of her contract. The overall results reveal that the Board is pleased with Dr. Washington’s performance and is committed to ensuring that she has the appropriate support to improve student achievement. The Board and Superintendent agreed in a mutual discussion that the challenges facing the District for the remainder of this year and for the foreseeable future include improving student achievement, strengthening District finances, improving community relations, and for the Board and Superintendent to work as a team to achieve these objectives.
