Intern - PR and Communications,The Big Lunch Campaign, an Eden Project

The Big Lunch is currently recruiting for voluntary interns to assist our London team during our busiest period.

The Big Lunch is the one day get-together for neighbours – an idea from the Eden Project, encouraging people across the UK to come together for a few hours of food, friendship and fun. The initiative aims to create stronger, friendlier communities in which people start to share things, from conversation and ideas to skills and resources. Since starting in 2009, thousands of events have taken place each year, with a whopping 4.83 million people participating in 2014.

Interns will gain invaluable experienceworking on a UK wide community campaign and learn how to tailor communications for different audiences. Specific responsibilities will include interviewing Big Lunch organisers about their events and developing these stories with our PR agency, liaising with Councils and Housing Associations to encourage promotion of and support for The Big Lunch to their staff, stakeholders and communities, and inputting data into our database system. There will be opportunities to develop your writing skills and publish on our channels and in our partner organisation’s communications. Interns will be given their one day induction at the Eden Project on Monday 2ndFebruary (expenses will be covered).

Based in the bright and friendlyBig Lunch London office, the internship willbe flexible, however we hope to find individuals who are able to join the team for two or three days a week starting at the beginning of February until the end of April 2015.

Expectations of the role will include:

  • Provide the PR team with press and launch support
  • Provide administrative support and respond to public enquiries
  • Promote The Big Lunch at events
  • Contribute to communication channels

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is available to work week commencing 9thFebruary 2015
  • With a flair for writing and an interest in a career in communication
  • Is interested in The Big Lunch as a community initiative
  • Highly organised with the ability to work independently
  • Is confident on the phone and in person (essential)and personable
  • Has excellent written and spoken English
  • Has excellent MS Office skills (essential)
  • Is reliable and efficient
  • Is persuasive but tactful
  • Has an interest in marketing, communications, PR and journalism
  • Is proactive and enterprising
  • Can engage with not-for-profit organisations and community groups across the UK

This is a superb opportunity for someone interested in gaining marketing, PR and communicationsexperience within the charity sector. It also offers an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience of working with local government and in the Housing sector.

The Big Lunch is led by the Eden Project, is funded by Big Lottery Fund and partnered by Asda and Halifax.
