Warm up game : The Greetings Game.Touching different body parts and say Hello + name. How many different ways can you say hello? Verbally and physically. Different ways for different people.
Refer back to Year Group Assembly of Story of ‘Dinosaurs and all that Rubbish’.(ideally the assembly will take place immediately before the first lesson) Children to discuss immediate responses. Why didn’t the man want to stay on the earth? Do you think it was a good ideato go somewhere else? Was the place he came to a better place? Why?
Teacher-in –Role and Meeting
Explain to the class you are going to make the story bigger. Now the whole class is going on the journey with the man to find somewhere else to live.
Teacher now goes into Role as the man and calls a meeting to plan the journey
Mantle of the Expert
For a successful journey everyone will need to help. They will need to do a job that they are good at.T-in-R tells children to decide in 2s or 3s what they might be able to do and .report back to the group at the next meeting.All will then discuss how they might fulfill duties eg cook, cleaner, looking after plants etc
Find part of the spaceship where you can do your job. Simulate a take off using ‘Space Odyssey’ T-in-R can use an imaginary tannoy system to help children work through the day. Meeting at end of day to discuss how everything went.
Relating to classroom
Using a circle activity. Say your name and something you are good at. What might you be good at in the classroom? Children to say what their friends might be good at. Teacher puts up a list of classroom jobs up. What is the best way to give jobs out in the classroom?
Lesson Two: ‘Agreed Rules’
Remind children of ground rules and recap last week
Warm up game
Children to touch fingertips and say one nice thing about that person. This must be reciprocated. Must also say name eg ‘Anne whata lovely dress you are wearing’ or ‘John you are brilliant at football.’
Freeze Frame
Continue with story but explain you are going to change it‘The people on the rocket started to argue and no one listened to what anyone else had to say. People were lazy and forgot to do the important jobs. Soon there was litter everywhere and the rocket got very untidy.
Freeze Frame examples of these. Children to ask questions of characters.

Lesson Three; ‘We are here together’

Warm up Activity
Up, down, Freeze. Add turn, and one leg. If children are able teacher may add other commands.
Continue with story. ‘The spacecraft landed on the planet and everyone left the spaceship to explore’ Children might like to use space music and move to this, orbiting planet and finally coming to land. Children climb out of spaceship and explore new planet (this may be done outside in playground/garden) and children can use their imagination to create the new world. Return to class to discuss what they saw in pairs- remember this is not a new planet but really an improved earth that has to be shared with other life forms. Follow up with group discussion.
Message/ Paired Work /Mime
‘A message came from the dinosaurs: You are only allowed back on this planet if you can learn to get along and look after the planet’. How are they going to do this?. Discuss. options: Tell a partner two important things about yourself. Mime two activities you like to do-partner to guess
Mime something you both like doing together.
Cool Down
Using music fromEnya to create a mirror dance where you have to work together for two minute presentation. Children may share dance with rest of class.
Lesson Four ‘Making Friends’

Warm up Activity
Play ‘there’s space on my right: Sit in a circle. Leave a space on your right. Say ‘there’s a space on my right and I would like……..to come and sit in it.The child to the left of the space continues the game.At the end of the game ask the children how it felt to be chosen.

‘Soon after they landed the man had a big surprise for the community- a stowaway had been found on board the rocket He had not been invited on the trip because no one really knewhim. He had only just been found and as he could not be sent back the ‘man’ did not know what to do with him.
Hot Seating
In groups children think of some questions to ask him so that they do get to know him.Child may have another child as parrot on the shoulder and to help him with answers.Child to be hot seated. Follow up with a class discussion on how they might help himjoin in.
Relate to Class; Forum Theatre
Imagine you have a new person in the class
How can you make them feel welcome? In twos or threes demonstrate a situation where the child feels unwelcome. Audience to resolve problem at the end of each performance.

Lesson Five ‘Decisions’

Warm up Activity
Pass a Clap- circle activity. Teacher passes claps to the left and then right looking at person receiving clap. Pass to left or right but look at the person who is receiving .Pass anywhere in circle but you must look at person and say their name.
Continue with Story
‘The people in the new world realised that someone had to be in charge but they couldn’t make up their minds whether they needed a king or a group of people. The man was now too old and wanted to retire’
Discuss pros and cons.
Conscience Alley
Place about ten children into two rows of five. Each child in one row, to say one thing good about having a king to rule and in the other row, about a group of people in charge. One child walks down the middle. Now the children have to decide. How? Is it fair?
Relate to classroom
Can you think of a good way to make decisions in the classroom?
Choose something that is relevant at the moment and make a class decisioneg choosing someone for a particular job, choosing a piece of assembly music etc.
Lesson Six ‘Let’s Celebrate’

Warm up Activity
Circle Activity: Give children number/colour/fruit etc then ask them to swap chairs in the circle. First as a happy person, then sad, cross etc Now imagine there’s a chocolate on your chair. Other scenarios might include a spider, dripping water, a crocodile under your chair etc
End story
The people who had been living peacefully and happily in the new world decided to celebrate and so they had a wonderful party that would be remembered for a very long time.
Relate to Classroom
Discuss with children the best way to celebrate the fact that they (we) have been together as a class for ½ term and plan together a party or some event that the children have thought of. To be planned and executed by children. Make sure all children are involved some way in the planning and have some role to play eg party: games to be organised by a group
Show: if unable to perform could be responsible for staging and furniture.
