Job Description – Caretaker

Responsible to the Head teacher.
Hours: Initially 30 hours, Monday to Friday. (From 7.00 to 9.30am and 3.00 to 6.30pm) with potential for additional hours to facilitate additional opening of school as necessary.
This is for 52 weeks of the year with 24 days of holiday (arranged within school holiday times) and bank holidays.
Purpose:
To work under the direction of the Headteacher, providing a safe and secure, healthy and clean environment for all.
Responsibilities :
Ensure that buildings and the site are secure, including during out of school hours and taking remedial action if required.
Act as a designated key holder, providing out of hours and emergency access to the school site.
The unlocking of the school site for 7:00am and the checking of security of gates, doors and windows before locking at the end of the day.
Oversee the work of other cleaning staff to ensure site cleaning schedules are met effectively.
Assist the cleaners by performing some routine cleaning duties and to ensure coverage of any absence.
Operate and regularly check systems such as heating, cooling, lighting and security (including CCTV and alarms).
Undertake general repairs and maintenance of the buildings and site.
Notify headteacher of any emergency repairs that are needed.
Arrange regular maintenance and safety checks.
Monitor materials and stock and/order supplies of items such as paper towels, soap etc.
Undertake general portage duties, including moving furniture and equipment within the school.
Perform duties in line with health and safety regulations (COSHH) and take action where hazards are identified.
Undertake regular health and safety checks of buildings, grounds, fixtures and fittings, (including compliance with fire safety regulations) and equipment, in line with other schedules.
Cleaning and routine checking of minibuses and trailer to ensure safety and readiness for use to include fuelling and driving to servicing where possible.
Any other reasonable activity that is required under the direction of the head teacher.
These duties may be varied to meet the changing demands of the school at the reasonable discretion of the Head Teacher and following consultation with you.
