A. The Board of Trustees of the Walnut Springs ISD convened in a Regular meeting on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in the school library.

With a quorum determined, Brent Prescher called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.
B. Opening Prayer was given by Brent Prescher.
C. Minutes of Previous Meeting
A motion was made by Joe Herring and seconded by Linda Hargrove to approve the minutes of the meeting held on December 8, 2016.
Motion carried 3-0-1. (Brent Prescher abstained due to absence.)

1. BUDGET AMENDMENT
None
2. PAYMENT OF BILLS
A motion was made by Lanelle Galindo and seconded by Linda Hargrove to pay the bills.
Motion carried 4-0-0.
3. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS
Ms. Garrett reported the following:
· Large freezer in the cafeteria stopped freezing. It is now fixed, but needs a dedicated circuit to run properly.
· Johnnie Billman and Joe Herring are up for reelection to the school board this year.
· Explanation of A-F school rating was given. This will be implemented for next school year.
Ms. Garza reported the following:
· The Christmas program was a success. Many compliments were received.
· Breakfast with Santa was a huge hit.
· Elementary and JH UIL students will be going to Kopperl next week. 53 students competing the first day and 36 students competing the second day.
· Elementary Awards program will be on January 13th. JH and High School students will receive their awards in the classroom.
· Eleven JH and 23High School students will receive semester awards on January 20th.
· The second round of benchmark testing will be the week of January 30th.
· Teachers and students are preparing for state testing and RTI testing.
· Basketball is in full swing.
· Walnut Springs Junior High tournament will be held on January 26th and 28th.
· District has received the letter jackets for eligible students.
· Third and final official walkthroughs for everyone will be completed by January 20th.
· Appraisals will begin in February.
· Enrollment is at 188 students.
4. BOARD APPRECIATION
Ms. Garrett gave each member a certificate and thanked them for their service to the district.
5. ELECTRICITY – UPCOMING END OF CONTRACT
Ms. Garrett reported that there are 3 companies calling the district concerning electricity prices. A notice will be in the paper next month concerning bids.
6. RESOLUTION CONCERNING A-F ACCOUNTABILITY RATING SYSTEM for TEXAS PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Ms. Garrett reported that there is a resolution to repeal the A-F rating system. She stated the basis for the resolution and the need to repeal it.
A motion was made by Joe Herring and seconded by Lanelle Galindo to adopt the resolution.
Motion carried 4-0-0.
7. INVESTMENT REPORT –TEXPOOL
Ms. Garrett reported the amount in TexPool as of December 31, 2016 was $667,470.21. Total interest earned as of the last day of December was $2752.38.
8. EXECUTIVE SESSION: An executive/closed session was held pursuant
to Section 551.074 of Government Code to deliberate the appointment,
employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, resignation, or
employment action with regard to personnel – Superintendent Evalutation /
Contract.
In Session at 6:55 p.m.
Out of Session at 7:24 p.m.
9. DISCUSSION and/or ACTION on ITEM #8.
Brent Prescher made a recommendation to extend Ms. Garrett’s contract by
1 year.
A motion was made by Lanelle Galindo and seconded by Joe Herring to
extend the contract for Ms. Garrett by adding one year to her existing
contract.
Motion carried 4-0-0.
10. EXECUTIVE SESSION: An executive/closed session was held pursuant
to Section 551.0821 of Government Code to deliberate personally
identifiable information concerning a transfer student.
No applications to review.
11. DISCUSSION and/or ACTION on ITEM #10.
No Action.
12. ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Lanelle Galindo and seconded by Linda Hargrove to adjourn at 7:26 p.m.
Motion carried 4-0-0.
