Notes from Mr. C

The first marking period of the school year official ended on Tuesday, October 29. One marking period down and only three to go! Our parent/teacher conferences will be held on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5 for grades K-5 and on Monday, November 11 for just Kindergarten. Report cards will be distributed at the parent/teacher conference again this year. Report cards will be sent home with students on Wednesday, November 6 if you were unable to attend a conference. I encourage all parents to sign up and meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress to this point. If you cannot make it on the scheduled conference days, please try and schedule a mutual time with the teacher. Please remember that the research has proven that our students will be more successful in and out of school when their parents take an active and positive role in their child’s education.

Please remember to check the West Hanover website and our e-Communications (formerly e-Backpack) link weekly for important district, school, and community information. Enjoy the beautiful fall weather and have a Happy Thanksgiving! “MR.C.” "LEARN LIKE A CHAMPION TODAY!"

WILDCAT/RAM SKI CLUB:

While it is only November, winter will be here before you know it. Do you love winter and the snow as much as Mr. C. does, even if we do not get enough of both? Do you love to ski or snowboard or would you love to learn? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, then the WILDCAT/RAM SKI CLUB is for you! This is the only Elementary and Middle School Ski Club in the district and it is open to anyone: teachers, parents, students, friends and relatives. The club was organized to facilitate discounted group rates to anyone regardless of age or experience. Anyone who is age 4 or older is eligible to purchase a NIGHT CLUB CARD (NCC) for Roundtop, Liberty, and Whitetail Resorts. This card is a picture ID that entitles the cardholder to ski or snowboard every night beginning January 2, 2014, through the end of the season for one low rate with packages starting at $179. Anyone 5 or younger receives a free ticket with a paying adult or NCC holder if you choose not to purchase the NCC for the child. This year the Ski Club is able to offer Season Passes, Night Season Passes, and Online purchasing if you choose. If you are interested in more information on the cost of the different packages, please contact Mr. C. at the school. All applications and payments need to be to Mr. C. ASAP. While there is no cost to join the WILDCAT SKI CLUB, the NCC’s are only sold through ski clubs and schools.

This is a fun opportunity for students and their siblings to come to a “secret shoppe” and buy gifts for their family and friends. Additional information will be sent home with students in advance. The Holiday Shoppe is typically very well attended, and there are lots of opportunities for volunteers to enjoy the holiday spirit and assist with the event. This includes greeting attendees, giftwrapping, and serving refreshments. Fifth graders may complete and return the attached form to apply for an “Elf” position. These students will act as Santa’s helpers and assist our younger children as they shop for their holiday gifts. In addition, the School Spirit and the School Store will be open for parents to purchase items while they wait for their children. Light refreshments will be provided for all students, volunteers and parents. If you have any questions, please contact Bob Pento at .

5th Graders:

The PTA needs your help with our Holiday Secret Shoppe. This year, the Shoppe will be held on Friday, December 6th from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM and Saturday, December 7th from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. 5th graders will act as Santa’s helpers and assist our younger children as they shop for their holiday gifts. This is a SECRET Shoppe so parents will stay outside the multi-purpose room and enjoy cookies and refreshments while their children shop.

As a helper, you will need to wear jeans and either a holiday shirt or a red or green shirt.

If you would like to help, please mark your first and second choice of shifts. Please note that your shift starts 15 minutes before the Holiday Shoppe opens to students. We will try to give you your first choice. We need a parent’s signature that confirms they will be responsible for bringing you to school for your shift and picking you up. Please return the bottom part of the sheet by Friday, November 15 and you will receive your assignment before Thanksgiving. If you have any questions, you can contact Bob Pento at

We will be having an Elf break area in the multi-purpose room this year. We are asking Elf parents to please donate a snack and/or drink for the Elf break area.

I would like to participate as a Santa’s Helper for the Holiday Shoppe.
