CLASS TITLE:FORESTRY CENTER MANAGER
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is managerial work directing and implementing all state forestry activities consolidated within a geographical area to include an administrative district, major state forest, and nursery and/or orchard operation. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class exercise(s) independent judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration and/or preparation and administration of budgets.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

- Plans, develops and directs all state forestry programs encompassing timber management, recreation, nursery and/or orchard operation, fire suppression, fire prevention, and law enforcement in a forestry center.
- Evaluates manpower/equipment needs and shifts personnel/equipment between work units to ensure adequate resources are available.
- Develops long and short-range operational plans on all state forestry programs managed by a forestry center.
- Prepares and supervises the preparation of legislative and operating budgets for a forestry center.
- Maintains contacts with public officials and governmental agencies to ensure effective working relationships.
- Reviews the work of various sections of a forestry center, coordinating their activities and advising them on policy and administrative matters.
- Develops, interprets, and formulates policies and procedures.
- Determines value of forest resources and promotes forest resources sales.
- Directs and manages electronic data processing systems for budget control, electronic mail, personnel records and storage of data.
- Performs related work as required.

- Knowledge of forest management principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of forest conservation principles and practices.

- Knowledge of fire prevention and suppression techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in forestry and four years of professional, administrative or supervisory forestry experience; or
- A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in forestry and three years experience as described above.
- Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
- In addition to the above, Florida Statute 633 requires that any person employed in this class must:
- (1)Be a high school graduate or the equivalent, as the term may be determined by the Division of State Fire Marshal of the Department of Insurance.
- (2)Not have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, as the term is defined by law and must comply with Florida Statute 112.001(2)(B).
- (3)Have his/her fingerprints on file with the Division of State Fire Marshal or an agency designated by the Division.
- (4)Have good moral character as determined by investigation under procedure established by the Division.
- (5).Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination as prescribed by the division. Such examination may include but need not be limited to provisions of the National Fire Protection Association Pamphlet 1582.
- (6)Be a nonuser of tobacco or tobacco products for at least 1 year immediately preceding application, as evidenced by the sworn affidavit or the applicant.
