Exemption Checklist

Members of the workforce who work predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents/carers and who could potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing the needs of a child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns, should complete Foundation Module 1: An Introduction to Safeguarding Children, Foundation Module 2: Child Protection Plans and possibly Foundation Module 3: Core Groups (depending on your organisations training requirements). You may have received similar or equivalent training within your organisation or elsewhere. Therefore, the SSCB has produced the following exemption checklist for Foundation Module 1: An Introduction to Safeguarding Children only.

In order to receive exemption, complete the following checklist and return to the SSCB for consideration. If exemption is agreed, the SSCB will countersign this form and return to you. Ensure you keep this form as part of your professional development record.

This training is a pre-requisite for Foundation Module 1. If you have not completed this training, you must do so, or contact the SSCB about exemption to this.
Understands the impact of parenting issues, such as domestic abuse, substance misuse, and mental illness on parenting capacity.
Recognises the importance of family history and functioning.
Explored and understand how their own attitudes and values may influence their perception of abuse.
Understands what can cause significant harm to children.
Knows of relevant legislation and guidance on safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare.
Confident in recognising situations where abuse may be occurring consider child protection thresholds and be able to take appropriate action.
Explored sources of stress on parents and how this can contribute to children being at risk of harm.
Can identify key processes that underpins work withchildren in need, including those in need ofprotection, and identify roles and responsibilities.
Explored recurring themes from National and Local Serious Case Reviews.
Understands the importance of information sharing and explored this in a multi-agency context.
Understands how to make a referral in Surrey and understands the referral process.
Aware of the process for managing allegations of staff and volunteers in Surrey.
