Parents,

We are going to watch Home Alone in English to further study how character motivation influences choices in a story, to compare and contrast the internal and external conflicts experienced by Kevin (HomeAlone) and Ben (Deathwatch), and to evaluate how both characters respond to and survive in their individual circumstances.

The culminating project for this activity will be to write an essay. Students will evaluate how each character respond to the challenges he faces, based on the circumstances, the setting and the character’s own personal motivations. Students will compare and contrast the challenges of survival both boys face in the stories.

The movie, Home Alone, is rated “PG” and requires parent permission to be shown in class. If you will allow your child to watch this movie in class, will you please sign the form and have your child return it to class? If you do not give your child permission, he/she will be given an alternate assignment, of equal time and effort, to complete on the days we watch the movie and write the essay.
