Pesticide Trainings

  • There will be one training this year in Ashley for private applicators needing to update their license. If you currently have a license you will get a card in the mail with the date. If you have never had a license or let your license expire you will need to call the Extension Office to check on the date of the training. There will only be one training offered in McIntosh County due to low numbers of those needing to be re-certified. We will let you know of neighboring county’s dates.
  • A fumigation training will be held March 26 by Andrew Thostenson via web-streaming in the Extension Office.

Why fill out the 2012 Census??

  • Many of you recently received the 2012 Census in the mail…it is a large daunting green and white form asking very detailed questions about your operation. I know you may have thrown it away (hopefully you didn’t since you are required by law to fill it out) but you can still fill it out…I’ll tell you how and a couple reasons why you should fill it out. First reason to fill out the Census: You probably need something to do in the bathroom. Second reason: my office and many others use the information provided in the Census on a weekly basis when talking to producers like you or designing educational programs. Third reason: I hate guessing when I am talking to someone about our community! I like to go to the Census website and look up the facts as reported by you and pass those along to others who are wondering things like…how many farms/pigs/cows/chickens/women farmers/agro-tourism/young producers/acres/grain bins/feedlots/bees/horses/berries/acres of hay/rented acres/farmsteads, etc. are there in McIntosh County??
  • You are required by law to fill out your census report and information is kept confidential. If you have your paper copy you can go online to and enter your survey code and fill it out online. If you need a new copy of the census you can request a new form by calling 1-888-424-7828.
  • You have until February 4, 2013 to respond to the Census by mail or online.
