SHABBAT – A DAY TO BE HONORED
A)Shabbat is Saturday. Gen. 2:2 “By the seventh day G-d had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.” establishes that the Sabbath as ordained by G-d is on the seventh day of the week which in the Gregorian calendar is "Saturday."
B)Sabbath is Holy. Gen. 2:3 “And G-d blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”
C)Sabbath is used to emphasize the significance of certain Appointed Feasts. Lev. 23:1-3 “HaShem said to Moses, "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'These are my appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of HaShem, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies. There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly...'"
D)Sabbath is for resting and assembling. Lev. 23:3 “There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to HaShem.” and, Exodus 34:21 “Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.”
E)Cooking and Food Preparation is not allowed. Ex 16:21-30 “Each morning everyone gathered as much [manna] as he needed, and when the sun grew hot, it melted away. On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much-- two omers for each person-- and the leaders of the community came and reported this to Moses. He said to them, "This is what HaShem commanded: `Tomorrow is to be a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to HaShem. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.'" So they saved it until morning, as Moses commanded, and it did not stink or get maggots in it. "Eat it today," Moses said, "because today is a Sabbath to HaShem. You will not find any of it on the ground today. Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any." Nevertheless, some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather it, but they found none. Then HaShem said to Moshe, "How long will you refuse to keep my commands and my instructions? Bear in mind that HaShem has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where he is on the seventh day; no one is to go out." So the people rested on the seventh day.”
F)Working in the form of carrying things out of a “domain” Jer. 17: 21 “This is what HaShem says: Be careful not to carry a load on the Sabbath day or bring it through the gates of Jerusalem. Do not bring a load out of your houses or do any work on the Sabbath, but keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your forefathers.”
G)Do Not Make or allow Others Work to you (ie. Children, employees, animals or foreigners) Ex 20:8-10 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to HaShem your G-d. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.”
Exodus 23:12 “Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the slave born in your household, and the alien as well, may be refreshed.”
Deut 5:12 “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as HaShem your G-d has commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to HaShem your G-d. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that HaShem your G-d brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. ThereforeHaShem your G-d has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.”
H)Lighting a fire inside your House Exodus 35:3 “Do not light a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.”
- Scriptures on the Seriousness of Descreting the Sabbat Exodus 31:13-15 “Say to the Israelites, "You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am HaShem, who makes you holy. Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it must be put to death; whoever does any work on that day must be cut off from his people. For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to HaShem. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death."
- Num. 15:32-36 “While the Israelites were in the desert, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day. Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly, and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him. Then HaShem said to Moshe, "The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp." So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as HaShem commanded Moshe.
- Shabbat Shalom.

Gen. 2:3 “And G-d blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”
Exodus 20:8"Remember the day, Shabbat, to set it apart for God.9You have six days to labor and do all your work,10but the seventh day is a Shabbat for ADONAI your God. On it, you are not to do any kind of work -not you, your son or your daughter, not your male or female slave, not your livestock, and not the foreigner staying with you inside the gates to your property.11For in six days, ADONAI made heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. This is why ADONAI blessed the day, Shabbat, and separated it for himself.
Lev 16:29 "It is to be a permanent regulation for you that on the tenth day of the seventh month you are to deny yourselves and not do any kind of work, both the citizen and the foreigner living with you.30For on this day, atonement will be made for you to purify you; you will be clean before ADONAI from all your sins.31It is a Shabbat of complete rest for you, and you are to deny yourselves. "This is a permanent regulation.

Luke 4:15He taught in their synagogues, and everyone respected him.16Now when he went to Natzeret, where he had been brought up, on Shabbat he went to the synagogue as usual.
Luke 23:54It was Preparation Day, and a Shabbat was about to begin.55The women who had come with Yeshua from the Galil followed; they saw the tomb and how his body was placed in it.56Then they went back home to prepare spices and ointments. On Shabbat the women rested, in obedience to the commandment;
Exodus 16:22On the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two 'omers per person; and all the community leaders came and reported to Moshe.23He told them, "This is what ADONAI has said: 'Tomorrow is a holy Shabbat for ADONAI. Bake what you want to bake; boil what you want to boil; and whatever is left over, set aside and keep for the morning.'"24They set it aside till morning, as Moshe had ordered; and it didn't rot or have worms.25Moshe said, "Today, eat that; because today is a Shabbat for ADONAI - today you won't find it in the field.26Gather it six days, but the seventh day is the Shabbat - on that day there won't be any."27However, on the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather and found none.28ADONAI said to Moshe, "How long will you refuse to observe my mitzvot and teachings?29Look, ADONAI has given you the Shabbat. This is why he is providing bread for two days on the sixth day. Each of you, stay where you are; no one is to leave his place on the seventh day."30So the people rested on the seventh day.31The people called the food man. It was like coriander seed, white; and it tasted like honey cakes.32Moshe said, "Here is what ADONAI has ordered: 'Let two quarts of man be kept through all your generations, so that they will be able to see the bread which I fed you in the desert when I brought you out of Egypt.'"33Moshe said to Aharon, "Take a jar, put in it two quarts of man, and set it aside before ADONAI to be kept through all your generations."34Just as ADONAI ordered Moshe, Aharon set it aside before the testimony to be kept.35The people of Isra'el ate man for forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate man until they arrived at the borders of the land of Kena'an.36(An 'omer is one-tenth of an eifah [which is a bushel dry-measure].)
Exodus 31:13"Tell the people of Isra'el, 'You are to observe my Shabbats; for this is a sign between me and you through all your generations; so that you will know that I am ADONAI, who sets you apart for me.14Therefore you are to keep my Shabbat, because it is set apart for you. Everyone who treats it as ordinary must be put to death; for whoever does any work on it is to be cut off from his people.15On six days work will get done; but the seventh day is Shabbat, for complete rest, set apart for ADONAI. Whoever does any work on the day of Shabbat must be put to death.16The people of Isra'el are to keep the Shabbat, to observe Shabbat through all their generations as a perpetual covenant.
Exodus 35:1Moshe assembled the whole community of the people of Isra'el and said to them, "These are the things which ADONAI has ordered you to do.2On six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is to be a holy day for you, a Shabbat of complete rest in honor of ADONAI. Instead, make Shabbat a holy day. I ordered your ancestors to do this,23but they neither listened nor paid attention; rather, they stiffened their necks, so that they wouldn't have to hear or receive instruction.24However, if you will pay careful heed to me," says ADONAI "and carry nothing through the gates of this city on Shabbat, but instead make Shabbat a day which is holy and not for doing work;25then kings and princes occupying the throne of David will enter through the gates of this city, riding in chariots and on horses. They, their princes, the people of Y'hudah and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim will enter; and this city will be inhabited forever.26They will come from the cities of Y'hudah, from the places surrounding Yerushalayim, from the land of Binyamin, from the Sh'felah, from the hills and from the Negev, bringing burnt offerings, sacrifices, grain offerings, frankincense and thanksgiving sacrifices to the house of ADONAI.27But if you will not obey me and make Shabbat a holy day and not carry loads through the gates of Yerushalayim on Shabbat, then I will set its gates on fire; it will burn up the palaces of Yerushalayim and not be quenched."'
Ex 34:21 "Six days you will work, but on the seventh day you are to rest - even in plowing time and harvest season you are to rest
Neh 10:31"If the peoples of the lands bring merchandise or food to sell on Shabbat, we will not buy from them on Shabbat or on a holy day.
Neh 13:15 During this time I saw in Y'hudah some people who were treading winepresses on Shabbat, also bringing in heaps of grain and loading donkeys with it, likewise wine, grapes, figs and all kinds of loads; and they were bringing them into Yerushalayim on the day of Shabbat. On the day when they were planning to sell the food, I warned them not to. 16 There were also living there people from Tzor who brought in fish and all kinds of goods, and sold them on Shabbat to the people in Y'hudah and even in Yerushalayim. 17 I disputed with the nobles of Y'hudah, demanding of them, "What is this terrible thing you are doing, profaning the day of Shabbat? 18 Didn't your ancestors do this, and didn't our God bring all this disaster on us and on this city? Yet you are bringing still more fury against Isra'el by profaning Shabbat!" 19 So when the gates of Yerushalayim began to grow dark before Shabbat, I ordered that the doors be shut; and I ordered that they not be reopened until after Shabbat. I put some of my servants in charge of the gates, to see to it that no loads be brought in on Shabbat. 20 The merchants and sellers of all kinds of goods spent the night outside Yerushalayim once or twice, 21 until I warned them, "Why are you spending the night by the wall? Do it again, and I'll use force against you!" From then on they stopped coming on Shabbat. 22 Then I ordered the L'vi'im to purify them and come and guard the gates, in order to keep the day of Shabbat holy. My God, remember this too for me, and have mercy on me in keeping with the greatness of your grace!

Matthew 12:1One Shabbat during that time, Yeshua was walking through some wheat fields. His talmidim were hungry, so they began picking heads of grain and eating them.2On seeing this, the P'rushim said to him, "Look! Your talmidim are violating Shabbat!"3But he said to them, "Haven't you ever read what David did when he and those with him were hungry?4He entered the House of God and ate the Bread of the Presence!" -- which was prohibited, both to him and to his companions; it is permitted only to the cohanim.5"Or haven't you read in the Torah that on Shabbat the cohanim profane Shabbat and yet are blameless?6I tell you, there is in this place something greater than the Temple!7If you knew what `I want compassion rather than animal-sacrifice' meant, you would not condemn the innocent.8For the Son of Man is Lord of Shabbat!"9Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue.10A man there had a shriveled hand. Looking for a reason to accuse him of something, they asked him, "Is healing permitted on Shabbat?"11But he answered, "If you have a sheep that falls in a pit on Shabbat, which of you won't take hold of it and lift it out?12How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore, what is permitted on Shabbat is to do good." Then to the man he said, "Hold out your hand." As he held it out, it13became restored, as sound as the other one.
