Native Plants

Akura sells many Wairarapa eco-sourced plants. An eco-sourced native plant has been grown from seeds or cuttings collected from populations of locally occurring native plants.

Eco-sourcing:

  • is a way of recognising the unique nature of New Zealand’s native vegetation
  • protects the genetic diversity within local populations by collecting seeds from a wide range of plants in an area
  • protects the local character from being swamped by imported varieties from other areas
  • Eco-sourced plants are more likely to do better as they are best adapted to the conditions from the area they evolved in.
