Introduction/ Welcome: Karla (6:00-6:05)

Presentation: Career and College advisory (Maggie Personeus)
· New Position
· Position created by CMU and D51
· Role is to talk to kids to find out career goals
· Working with Juniors in the CCP (Career and College Prep) class (teach teach/guest speak)
· Coordinating trips and fairs for seniors
· 1 of 4 hired. One at each large High school
· Salary funded by CMU, other funding by d51 such as laptops travel etc…
· Went to Aspen college trip
o Big, 240 colleges there
o Students dispersed early and were good
o Leave earlier next year to see more options
· Working closely with counseling office
· Planning to meet with kids over the summer to find out why kids that are accepted don’t show
· Using Naviance to help kids to find the best fit for kids
· Full time year around
· CMU is invested, but no expectation to recruit to CMU
o Expectation is to find a path to post-secondary
· Kids of all ages can come see her
· Can work with the records that students have developed through Naviance, they have been given training and access
· Is working with IB staff so those students also get info.
· Suggested that maybe since she works summers she could help facilitate shadowing during the summer for IB students.

· Embrace the struggle presentation
o Spoke to the DP film instructor about this work, he was excited and seemed to feel it was in line with what they were working on.
o Mary shared she has enjoyed being able to reflect back to the presentation & reference it at home
o Dan has asked some children/families that visit his office to view the Ted talk
· State of Palisade Presentation at the town council meeting.
o Rushed- asked to keep to 15 minutes
o 1 of 3 presentations that night
o Not as much dialog as in the past
o Had a different audience, very candid
o New message for people in the audience
o Didn’t come across as rushed
· PHS Vision work progress
o Breaking into a team to start the vision work using all the feedback so far
o Plan to include the students in the vision work
o Part of the MYP application process

§ Working with Fish and Wildlife to house razer back sucker
§ In door hatchery (300-500 fish)
o See the proposed cost PNCI construction
§ $82,910
§ Major cost is to run electrical and waterline (~$53,000)
§ Senior kids have raised about $1000 selling peaches and promoting the project
§ Once we get the building, the fish and wildlife will supply all the tanks and equipment
§ How can we fundraise or eliminate some cost?
§ Ongoing cost to maintain the equipment such as a large pump going out
§ Who can do pieces and parts and donate their time and resources?
§ What is the Next step?
§ Bill and Pat will meet PNCI to find out step by step
§ What about HVAC?
§ Dan will talk to district to see if ok with accepting free labor and stuff
§ Put together the perspectives of why would we do this and how it would help the kids at PHS and improve the education here.
§ Is there a contract or conversation about the length of the commitment?
§ Contacts for grant writing will be explored as well
· Oct 26th Staff In-service
o MYP coordinator and IB presenter coming to PHS to present
o Hopefully will demonstrate what MYP looks like in the classroom
o Show what a unit plan looks like and how to develop the unit plan
o PHS will show parallel with the D51 learning model and the similarities
§ Social Emotional Learning SEL (Habits of mind)=Approaches to learning ATL (Learner Profile)
§ Performance Based Learning PBL = Approaches to teaching ATT
§ D 51 Rubrics = MYP rubrics
o Going to try to video the presentation so we can return to the learning and teaching, going to ask the DP film class to create the production

o Stem: Community foundation working with schools around the district. Collecting Legos and connects to distribute around the district.
§ PHS is a location to collect
§ They will be housed at each school. Should be enough to have at every school
§ Hope to build capacity for engineering in college
o Colorado Environmental leadership program
§ Energy, public health and environment in D51 has been recognized
§ Mt. Garfield student presented at state
§ Fund raised by collecting scrap metal and electronics to recycle and bought a 3D printer

§ Excellent opportunity
o Parent Teacher Conferences in Nov.
§ Mary remembered after the meeting that conferences will occur prior to our next meeting. A week prior Karla will put together a sign-up sheet for sandwiches and salads to feed the staff that evening.
