Dear Parent(s)/Guardians,
I am writing to inform you that a student from UCSD’s Education Studies Program who is teaching in your child’s classroom is required to videotape him/herself teaching in the classroom. The UCSD student views this tape to learn from his/her teaching and then submits 20 minutes of this video for the Performance Assessment for California Teachers (PACT). PACT is a test of teaching competence that is required in order to earn a teaching credential. The videotapes will be submitted by the UCSD student to the Department of Education Studies at UCSD, where it will be destroyed after the PACT assessment is completed. The focus of the video will be on the UCSD student’s teaching and the methods used, not on the students in the class. However, at times students may appear on the video. Neither your child’s name nor the name of the school will be used. A form is attached for you to sign and return. Your decision about whether or not to allow your child to participate will not affect his/her academic standing or grade in the class. The University requires that we inform you that we foresee no risks to your child from participating.

Estimados padres/tutores,
Por la presente les quiero comunicar que un maestro estudiantil de la Universidad de California San Diego (UCSD) que está actualmente enseñando a su hijo o hija, necesita hacer una grabación de video durante la clase. El maestro o la maestra usará esta grabación para mejorar su enseñanza y luego presentará veinte minutos de dicho video para la Evaluación de Desempeño de Maestros de California (Performance Assessment for California Teachers o PACT). Esta evaluación llamada PACT sirve como prueba de la aptitud del maestro estudiantil para enseñar y es obligatoria para todos los candidatos que quieran obtener un título de maestro. La grabación de video solamente será usada por el maestro estudiantil y por los profesores de la universidad UCSD, y después será destruida. En cualquier caso, el video se enfocará en el maestro estudiantil, su comportamiento y en los métodos de enseñanza que use, no en los alumnos en el salón. Sin embargo, en algunos momentos de la grabación, los alumnos aparecerán en el video. Bajo ningún pretexto será mencionado el nombre del alumno o el de la escuela.
Por favor completen, firmen y devuelvan el formulario abajo. Quiero asegurarles que ni los derechos ni las notas de su hijo/a se verán afectados por su decisión, tanto si permiten que su hijo/a aparezca en el video como si no. La Universidad nos exige que les informemos de que no anticipamos ningún riesgo para sus hijos/as por participar en este proyecto.
