This month…

Wow! What an amazing holiday program our Kinders gave last night!!! We are all so proud of them and the perseverance that they have shown in preparing for it!

They have all received a Dojo Point for it!

December is such a fun, but short month full of traditions. Make sure you have your passport, buckle your seatbelt, and hold on tight as we investigate Europe and its holiday traditions this month.

In Literacy….

Run, run as fast as you can…we will will be reading about the Gingerbread Man!

What better way to review the 5 senses than by baking real gingerbread cookies! In addition to reviewing the 5 senses, we will read many different versions of the Gingerbread Man story. We continue to work on retelling, so we will focus in on the characters, setting, events, problem and solution in each story. We will finish our book study by writing about our favorite version in our journals!

We continue to learn the ‘adult’ way to write capital letters as we work through our Handwriting Without Tears journals, as well as we have begun to differentiate our paper for students who are ready to write more sentences about their learning.

Literacy Reminders:

  • Continue to work on sight words!
  • Read book bag books and send back initialed after reading each 3 times.

Opportunities for students to discuss and share their visualizations of text will be our focus of comprehension this month. All aboard, we will be working on visualizing by riding the Polar Express on Monday, Dec. 4th. Your child may wear his or her pajamas to school!

In Social Studies, Science, and from a Global point of view…

We will be exploring the traditions of Sweden, France, Germany, England and Italy. PLEASE SEND A SHOE IN WITH YOUR CHILD BY DEC. 11TH TO HELP WITH ONE OF OUR TRADITONS, he or she will bring it back on the 11th! We will end our unit with a celebration of our United States traditions on Dec. 21st, and we would love to have you join us! Please watch for an additional email regarding signing up and times!

In Math…

We are currently beginning to work on Unit #3 in our math curriculum. Our lessons will focus on number writing, teen numbers, addition and subtraction of partners to 6.

At Ponderosa…

This Saturday, our PES PTA is hosting the first annual holiday vendor fair and chilli cook off from 11am – 2pm in the gym, cafeteria and in the entry way.

Take action if you haven’t already, and please send in canned goods for our school wide canned food drive.

VIP Classroom Reminders…

  • Remind your student to bring home and return with water bottles weekly!
  • Take Action- Send in cans of non-perishable food to be donated through November!
