Administrator Assembly Minutes September 17, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 4:03 pm by Rick Carruth, chair.
A request from the floor was made to allow Peter Richardson to present his information prior to the committee reports.
In lieu of A Closer Look, introductions of new administrators occurred:

Peter Richardson gave an update of the Sesquicentennial Celebration.
During Homecoming, there will be a panel discussion of the “Good Ol’ Days,” as well as students from Jackson Miller’s Persuasion and Social Influence class (TCT 340) will be interviewing alumnus with the intention of making these records available on the college website.
Marv Henberg is to speak on Sept. 19 and will be signing bookplates for the soon to be released history of Linfield.
Members of the Assembly were encouraged to participate in the Brick sales; the bricks will be laid in the spring (May 9) in Sesquicentennial Square in front of Walker Hall.
Under this medallion-shaped square, a time capsule will be laid. Students are being asked to suggest items for this project.
January 30, 2008 is the actual dedication day. There will be speeches given by Dr. Hellie, Chipo Dendere (ASLC President) and President Riley’s old address will be resurrected.
February 28- April 18, Nicholson Library will host a traveling exhibit focused on Alexander Hamilton. Linfield is the only place in the Northwest that will host this exhibit.
There will be a resurrection of Spring Sings, a student organization and associated songbook.
Committee Reports:
Compensation Committee: Gordon Kroemer reported that although he is no longer a member, he believes there are still two positions open.
Handbook Committee: again, two positions open; the group decided by consensus that if anyone volunteered they would be accepted.
Social Task Force: the next monthly breakfast to be held at the Crescent Café. Dave Hansen will send an emailed reminder/invitation.
Planning Council: Shaik Ismail reported they would be having their first meeting on Thursday, 9/20.
Administrator Leadership Committee: Rich Carruth reported that we’re getting our feet wet.
President’s Report: Fred Ross presented in place of President Hellie who is in Chicago. This will be a monumental year with the Sesquicentennial. The Strategic Plan will be voted on again in the upcoming Trustee’s meeting. We are unofficially entering into a “quiet phase” of a campaign that is planned to take 1-2 years. The campaign will not become public until approximately half of the goal is met.
The Old Oak is dying. It has been infested with carpenter beetles. In future months it will be pruned heavily in an attempt to help it live as long as possible.
Last summer was very successful in fund raising for the college:
Hearst Foundation $100, 000 for endowed scholarships
$263,000 in federal monies for minority recruitment
Elizabeth Glickman Estate, $1.6 million for endowed professors, but this is a matching grant
The search for the Vice President of Academic Affairs continues. It is hoped to conclude by Christmas.

Residence halls can house 917 students, we currently have 872 (95% capacity); we had budgeted for 97% occupancy rate. May regain some of that loss from the suburbs which house 471 students (88% occupancy rate). Some of this is a result of some sophomores transferring to the Portland campus. Llinfield is one of the few colleges with a three year live-in policy.
Enrollment report given by Dan Preston. We have not yet reached Census Day, so Dan hesitantly presented some general figures.
DCE revenue is generated by credits rather than individuals and they are at about 170% for fall.
Portland campus FTE and headcount is down as expected. This is a result of the shift to a transfer-only campus
McMinnville campus is a little unsettling/unpredictable. Freshman enrollment is a little higher than expected; however, the rate of retention from freshman to sophomore is down from projections. Dan intends to focus on retention and looking toward a different mix of students than ten years ago
Disaster Response Drill given by Mike Dressel
Drill was held in August with the help of several staff members and students. The intent was to coordinate with local police, fire dept., State Police SWAT team in a recreation of a possible disaster scenario. We don’t anticipate anything, but must be ready. Communication issues need to be worked through and it is planned that a similar exercise will be held each summer.
