Pack 843 Clearances for Adult Volunteers

When do we need to do this?

All current volunteers MUST COMPLETE this before rechartering in December 2015

All New Volunteer must complete it before we can turn in your Scout Leader application.

What do I do?

(Note: You are going to need to save three files as PDFs. First make sure that when you print a web page from your Browser, you can save it as a PDF. Basically you act like you are going to print to paper then select choices to save it to a folder you can find on your machine. Try it and see if you can find the file and open it. If not, look for the part of the page where they talk about downloading Free .pdf converters like CutePDF.)

How To Obtain Your Background Checks

1)  The first thing you need to do is:

State Police Criminal Record Check PA

·  Click the link to go to the site.

·  Click “New Record Check Volunteers only”

·  Check the agreement box, continue, fill out the information

·  Volunteer Organization Name and Phone: Boy Scouts of America Laurel Highlands Council , (412) 471-2927

·  Follow through the process.

·  You will get to a page that says: No Record

·  Then you click on the control number. This will take you to a page you can print or in this case, turn into a PDF

2)  The second thing you need to do is:

Child Abuse History Clearance

·  Click the link to go to the site.

·  Create Individual Account

·  Create Keystone ID

·  (you will get your temporary password emailed to you)

·  Access the site again

·  Now click individual login

·  Click Create Clearance Application

·  Volunteer – Other - Boy Scouts of America Laurel Highlands Council

·  Follow though – This takes some time. You need all your prior addresses and names and ages of people you lived with.

·  When done they send you email to get back in for the results. You can also choose the go to my account at the end if you still have the screen up.

·  Get your results as a PDF file you save to your machine. It will say “no record exists”

3)  The third thing you need to do is (2 possibilities):

FBI Criminal Background Check:

·  If PA resident for less than 10 continuous years and/or a resident of anywhere other than PA, then follow the link to the FBI Criminal Background Checkpage

·  Select “Department of Human Services”

·  Complete the requirements (I didn’t have to do this one, so I don’t have any details)

------OR------

Laurel Highlands Council Pennsylvania Resident Volunteer Verification Form (PDF):

·  If you have been a PA resident for at least 10 continuous years, then complete theLaurel Highlands Council Pennsylvania Resident Volunteer Verification Form.

·  Follow the link. It opens a PDF with fields to fill in.

·  Sign the form with “s/” followed by your name.

·  You might have to save it to your machine, Open it from there, fill in forms, save and close.

·  Open it again to be sure your information is there.

4)  Ok, now you have your 3 forms. There is one more thing to do. Look for the section called

How To Receive Approval

Click the link to the LHC BSA Online Risk Management System. Fill out the information. You are a “Unit Volunteer.” Your District is “Frontier”. We are a “Pack”. Unit Number is 0843. If you are a registered leader already, you have a BSA membership number. If not leave it blank. Upload the three forms. You will get an email saying it worked.

Hang on to your electronic copies. Print a paper copy of all three clearances and give to our Rechartering Queen, Cara Robitaille (that’s now her official new title). I’m not advising you to email me the electronic copies because paper is safer for privacy but if you do, she can print them for you. You will probably need these documents for other organizations like school and sports, so remember where you saved them.
