Precalculus – Quiz Retake Policy
Ms. Springer-Wilson
In Precalculus, you will be permitted to retake quizzes. The purpose of this opportunity is to encourage you to learn the material necessary to do well in the class. If you did not perform well on aquiz, that is an indication you need to relearn and/or restudy the material. When you have done so, a quiz retake will allow you to demonstrate your learning.
In order to make these retake opportunities an effective and practical learning tool, the following guidelines apply:
When: You may retake any quiz on any Tuesday after school. On the rare occasion Ms. Springer-Wilson cannot stay after school on Tuesday, she will provide another opportunity that week. If you cannot stay after school on Tuesdays, you may schedule another time; this conflict must be communicated by email and more than 24 hours before the retake. You may retake only one quiz per week.
Number of opportunities: You may retake a single quiz up to two times. Each of the first two quizzes serve as a reflection of your learning. By taking this information into account and preparing accordingly, there will be no need to retake a quiz more than twice.
What to bring: You need to bring the original quiz and the first retake (if applicable) with you when you come to retake a quiz.
What to expect: You will turn in the original quiz(zes) and receive a piece of paper outlining the quiz retake procedure. After signing to agree to the retake procedure, you will receive a quiz on the same material and of comparable difficulty as the original. You will have the originally allotted quantity of time in which to complete the retake.
The score: Because quizzes are given as opportunities to demonstrate learning, your most recent quiz grade will be entered in the grade book. If you retake a quiz and, having not prepared properly, demonstrate that you have un-learned material, the quiz grade will reflect that level of learning. You will sign to agree to this policy before you see the new quiz. As soon as you have seen the quiz, the score earned on that quiz will be entered in the gradebook.
Absences: If you are absent on the day of a quiz, that blank quiz will count as the original quiz. You should, therefore, make the quiz up after school and are then permitted to retake the quiz one time.
With these guidelines, quiz retakes can serve as a very effective learning tool and allow you to demonstrate that you have learned math – something of which you should be proud and for which you should receive credit!
