1. Please type or neatly print all information requested on the official registration form.
2. Each high school may enroll up to 4 students in the regional welding contest. In the Southern Regional Welding Contest, students must be active members of SkillsUSA to participate and qualify for the Nevada SkillsUSA Championships in in Reno on April 4-7, 2017.
3. Complete a liability form “D” (attached) for each contestant SUBMIT with Registration form.
Form D’s received after the deadline may result in student being purged from the contest.
4. Registration fee is $30.00 per contestant due at registration deadline (January 27th).

Southern Regional Welding Contest Description
Date: Saturday, February 11, 2017
Time: 8:00 a.m.
Location: Pipe Trades Training Center
Students will be tested in the following areas
• Oxygen Fuel Cutting
• Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
• Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
Required projects will be taken from the AWS Entry Level Welder Series
Contestants will also be required to take a written test covering general welding knowledge.
Contestants must bring the following items:
• Hearing protection / • Safety glasses with side shields• Leathers and welding gloves / • No. 2 pencil and pen
• Soap stone with holder / • Steel tape measure
• 10-inch vise grips / • Carbon steel wire brush
• Combination Square / • Chipping hammer w/ or w/o wire brush
• Divider or Compass / • Center Punch
• Ball Peen Hammer (small) / • Scribe
• Tool Box or Tool Bucket / • Welding helmet/face shield/goggles with
appropriate #5 and #10 filer plates or lens
Note: Contestants must wear appropriate work shoes and work clothes. Safety glasses w/side shields must be worn under welding hood and/or cutting goggles. (NO TENNIS SHOES)
Contest Updates will be provided to Advisors as needed.
Refer to State Contest Guidebook and 2016-17 National Technical Standards for more information on this contest.
Due to time limitations, the Interview portion of the contest will not be given. No Resume is required as well.
There must be a student chaperone from each school on site at all times during the contest.
