Script Writing Assignment
Length: 2-3 minutes Finished draft due: Next class (Sept 25)
Story Requirements:
ü Your short scene must take place in the overall setting of a highschool. Consider the following suggestions:
o Classroom
o Hallway
o Staircase
o Locker-room
o Cafeteria
o Bathroom
o Principal’s office
o Staffroom
o Library
* Consider the types of conflicts that may occur in any of these settings.
ü Your script should revolve around a distinct and compelling conflict (problem) that can be developed and resolved in a relatively short time.
ü Your script may have a maximum of 3 characters.
ü Your conflict needs to be developed and resolved by the end of your script – ie: your story needs to have a beginning, a middle, and an end.
Exposition (Beginning) / Rising Action / Climax (Middle) / Resolution (End)Characters and setting introduced. (one character may be introduced later, if necessary)
We should get a sense of layout on stage (ie: how is the setting layed out?) / The problem comes up.
How does it get worse?
How do the characters try to fix it?
How does the story reach its most intense, do-or-die moment? / What is the situation for the characters at the end of the play?
How have they been affected by the problem (and it’s solution)?
How do they seem to feel?
Requirements:
o EVERYBODY ACTS! All players should have roughly equal time on stage.
o NO PROPS – the world must be created by your actions, and must stay consistent. The only exception is you are allowed up to 3 chairs.
o Though the story may take strange turns, it should make sense.
