Who we are
ADAS was established in 1987 as a response to concerns within the Harlow community about the lack of facilities for the treatment of local people with alcohol and drug dependency problems. ADAS was a community response and is the very essence of voluntary action. Our counselling services and the running of ADAS is supported by a group of committed volunteers.
The need for our services in Harlow and West Essex remains high. In Harlow females ranked the highest and males ranked third in the East of England for alcohol-related hospital admissions. ADAS is a well-respected and highly effective agency, which provides a service for the whole of West Essex. Through the delivery of counselling and group work we provide vital support to people suffering from problems caused by alcohol abuse and addiction. We aim to help people to make lasting positive changes. We also provide much needed support to affected family members and seek to raise the awareness of issues related to addiction in the community.
