Organic Molecules Sidewalk Chalk Activity
For the following sidewalk chalk activity, you and your (partner/group) will be assigned one macromolecule from below. You will create a chalk drawing/collage that includes each component described below. As you sketch out your design, label it and add in the other required components of the drawing. In some cases, a labeled picture will be sufficient to communicate the required information in other examples you will have to use a written description with your drawing.
Carbohydrates (12pts)
- Draw an example of a carbohydrate molecule. Label the elements in a least one portion of your design (3 pts)
- Is the carbohydrate molecule an organic or inorganic molecule? EXPLAIN using words and/or the diagram. (2pts)
- What are the functions of carbohydrates? (3 pts)
- What are the monomers of carbohydrates? (1 pt)
- As part of your picture(s) demonstrate how monomers of glucose combine to form a polymer. What type of macromolecule did you create? (3 pts)
Proteins (12pts)
- Draw a protein molecule and label the elements in at least one portion of your design. (2pts)
