A four day development programme for HCS colleagues who have some

responsibility for management and service delivery

What is the NES Healthcare Science: Refreshing Leadership programme?

Refreshing Leadership offers a generic insight into key leadership and management skills for frontline HCS staff. The programme is not specific to Healthcare Science, but uses generic training resources already available to NES. Refreshing Leadership is offered to Healthcare Science staff to encourage some shared development across the group and foster greater unity.

Who is it for?

Refreshing Leadership is for colleagues who are beyond the HCS Early Career stage and perhaps beginning to acquire some managerial responsibilities, are involved in local HCS committees, or participate in other NHS Board groups. A key purpose behind the programme is to foster some self-development through action learning and to ‘take the lead’ in running the final Open Session

The programme is not suitable for very senior HCS staff who are well-established in their role as Leads or Heads of Department.

How will the programme be delivered?

Refreshing Leadership comprises four one-day modules. The first three are delivered by NHS Education for Scotland’s Training Development and Support Unit. The final module is open: the group decides its content and purpose, and the group delivers it. Each cohort will act as an Action Learning Team, with some correspondence between members for exercises between modules.

The four modules:

A / Decision making + Negotiation
B / Persuasion + Problem Solving
C / Recruitment, Selection and the Interview process
D / Take the lead: the Open Session.

Registration

There is no booking charge for this programme, which has complimentary lunch and is hosted at NES venues in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
