NATURE OF EMPLOYMENT: / full time fixed term – ROSTERED SHIFTS BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 0745 - 1730
KEY TASKS / EXPECTED OUTCOMES
To ensure children are educated and cared for in a safe, hygienic and stimulating environment.
To ensure parents are welcomed and valued.
To understand and practice the standards set by centre policies, regulations, Te Whariki, Early childhood Licensing Criteria 2008, Education Act 1998 TeWhatu Pokeka and Centre kaupapa, beliefs and values.
To maintain effective functional working relationships with other staff, Management, visitors and volunteers.
KEY TASKS / TEACHING AND CURRICULUM – EXPECTED OUTCOMES
- With assistance from team members, programme observations, planning is undertaken, discussed, evaluated and revisited
- Foster self help skills of children by supporting individuality and independence and practicing from a foundation of respect.
- To demonstrate a respect for diversity. Assisting with the providing anti-biasis, non-sexist languages, images and experiences.
- With assistance from team members to ensure daily core activities are offered with relevancy to your area of responsibility.
- With assistance from team members ensure individual portfolios are completed regularly documented and made available to parents.
- To ensure that Storypark portfolios are kept up to date, relevant and accessible to all parents and whanau.
- To ensure areas in which you work are kept organised, safe and hygienic at all times.
- To ensure that the children’s needs and interests are identified,
- To ensure Resources/equipment is organised attractively, stored and used appropriately. Ensuring protection and maintenance of the Centre’s equipment.
- To ensure that practice is reflective of the centres philosophy, kaupapa, beliefs and values at all times.

INTERACTIONS WITH CHILDREN – EXPECTED OUTCOMES
- Interactions with tamariki will always ensure individual mana is uplifted and respected
- Interactions with tamariki will always come from a foundation of respect.
- Demonstrate respect and observe interests of tamariki and intervene when needed to maintain safety.
- Enhance tamariki’ play with language, equipment and activities.
- Communicate with each child at the child’s level.
- Engage and communicate constructively with individual tamariki
- Encourage and model social behaviour and expectations, which are developmentally appropriate.
- Acknowledge feelings with sensitivity and demonstrate appropriate expression of emotions.
- Model positive discipline techniques that are in accordance with centre policy and procedure.
KEY TASKS / TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES – EXPECTED OUTCOMES
- Ensure that you lead by example to model consistent standards maintaining a relationship of co-operation.
- Demonstrate initiative and assume a fair share of the work.
- Communicate directly to ensure problems are identified, foreseen and solutions found promptly.
- To ensure daily centre responsibilities are completed.
- Ensure that you are considerate, attentive and positive to the needs of team members.
- Offer and share ideas with co-workers.
- Uphold the standards set by the Centre’s philosophy, kaupapa, policy values, goals and curriculum to parents, co-workers and community.
- Model professional work ethic and ensure continuity of education and care by reporting to work ontime and maintaining consistent attendance.
- Ensure that staffing schedules are followed.
- Demonstrate flexibility and be open to new ideas.
KEY TASKS / PARENT / VISITOR INTERACTIONS – EXPECTED OUTCOMES
- Greet parents and children by name and ensure parents and visitors feel valued and welcome.
- Demonstrate a courteous professional demeanour to all parents and visitors.
- Ensure all parents’ comments /concerns are handed on to the senior staff.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- To ensure children are ready to leave in a clean and tidy state with all their possessions at the end ofthe day.
KEY TASKS / PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES – EXPECTED OUTCOMES
- You have pride in your appearance and in the manner in which you perform your job.
- To ensure adherence to Centre policies and matters documented in the Staff and Policy Handbooks.
- Display enthusiasm, honesty, punctuality and professionalism at all times.
- Attend professional development courses to further develop your skills.
- Ensure that you uphold Centre Supervisor/Management committee opinions in a positive manner to all staff, parents and any other associated person by nature of their involvement in the
KEY TASKS / REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain all Ministry of Education ratios.
- Maintain all Company Policies including those relating to health & safety.
- Maintain full compliance with the Early Childhood Licensing Criteria 2008

- Any other duties that may from time to time be delegated by management.
- This document will be amended from time to time as agreed by the parties.
