Florida International University’s Department of Communication invites applications for two full-time, 9-month, permanent (not tenure-track) instructor positions in Communication Arts. Our young, growing Department invitesnew colleagues to join our scholarly community in an exciting college, dynamic university, and vibrant city. Our faculty members share common interests in intercultural communication, conflict resolution, strategic communication, and computer-mediated communication. Position Description:
We offer classes in three modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid). Instructors teach a 4:4 load, and designate preferences for both modality and specific courses. We seek candidates to teach Business and Professional Communication, Advanced Communication for Business, Public Speaking, Advanced Public Speaking, Intercultural Communication,and/orRhetoric classes. We are a growing Department with many needs and therefore welcome all applicants. Available service assignments within the Department include coordinating(a) activities in the Communication Studio where students practice public communication skills, (b) the public speaking courses or (c) the business and professional communication course; both courses have very high enrollment across the university. (d) Additional service options include advising the student honorary society and (e) advising the debate team while teaching courses in argumentation and debate. Specific service and course assignments will depend on the instructor’s qualifications, preferences, and departmental need. Minimum qualifications include an earned master’sdegree in Communication (Speech Communication or Communication Studies preferred) from an accredited university and at least two years’ experience teaching or in corporate training.
