CLASS TITLE:MUSEUM EXHIBIT DESIGN SUPERVISOR - SES
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is supervisory work planning, organizing and directing the design, construction, and fabrication of a variety of specialized museum collections and coordinating the development and presentation of museum exhibits with other professional museum staff. The primary duty of the employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class is to spend a major portion of the time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions.

- Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
- Plans work loads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
- Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met.
- Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
- Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings.
- Directs the work of employees to ensure best use of time and resources.
- Plans, coordinates and participates in the development, design and construction of complex exhibits for a large state museum.
- Supervises subordinate personnel in the construction and fabrication of museum exhibits and oversees the contractors and sub-contractors on grant and contract activities involving museum building construction and case fabrication.
- Coordinates the development and direct presentation of museum exhibits and information programs with other professional museum staff.
- Interviews and selects exhibit construction and specimen preparation personnel; instructs personnel in exhibits production techniques and art media used in preparing exhibits and may participate in exhibit production.
- Initiates and/or participates in short and long-range planning with reference to exhibit, research, and personnel programs.
- Coordinates the production of a variety of printed materials for the museum which includes the graphic design and layout of these materials.
- Assists other museums and local historical societies in design conceptualization of individual historical exhibit units and other museum undertakings.
- Performs related work as required.
