2016 UGHS Football
Private Helmet Purchase
In an effort to allow your son to be outfitted in the top-of-the-line, most protective head gear as possible, UGHS Football is allowing you to purchase your son a helmet from one of two approved vendors if you so choose. This is not a mandatory purchase, but one that is simply optional. By purchasing one of the following helmet options, your son is still responsible for the $400 player fee in its entirety. Purchasing a personal helmet does not reduce the player fee of $400; it is in addition to that player fee. If you choose not to purchase a private helmet for your son, you can rest assured that UGHS Football will provide your son with a properly fitting new or reconditioned helmet from our inventory that is compliant with all GHSA, NOCSAE, and Virginia Tech safety ratings.
In order to purchase a private helmet, you must fill out the order form below and submit it to Coach Melton on or before Friday, April 1st. No orders will be taken after that date to ensure enough time for delivery to UGHS and paint prior to helmet and shoulder pad handout on May 25th and May 26th.
Also, see below the Henry County BOE policy on helmet purchases that was made effective on April 2nd, 2014. This policy will help clarify our helmet purchase policy here at Union Grove.
Board Policy
When a helmet (or other athletic gear) cannot be used at a Henry County high school:
- The helmet (or athletic gear) is designated as “youth” helmet or gear.
- The helmet (or gear) was not purchased directly from a vendor (Riddell, etc.) that the school routinely does business with.
- The helmet (or gear) was purchased following our guidelines while playing at a HC middle school, but the helmet was returned to the player at the end of the 8th grade season thus was not in the school’s possession for a period of time (exception: see first “dot” below).
A private-purchased helmet may be used at a HC high school if the following conditions are met:
- The helmet is an adult helmet and was purchased (while player was in a HC middle school) directly from a school vendor (Riddell, etc.) and parent can provide original paperwork to prove the purchase. Said helmet would have to be turned in to school for inspection, reconditioning, and recertification. NOTE: Any helmet being considered in this category would have to have either a 4-or 5-STAR safety rating.
- A parent may contact the school AD to arrange purchase through the appropriate vendor being used by that school (ex: Riddell, etc.). In this instance, the parent would pay the school for the helmet. The helmet would then be ordered by the school and would be treated as part of the school’s inventory until the student completes his football career at that school.
- A privately purchased helmet will be returned to the player upon completion of the player’s career at that school.
