6th March 2018
Dear Parents,
The Billingham Environmental Link Programme (BELP) who have an allotment in The Clarences have been selected for theirGrowing our Community project by The Big Lottery. The Big Lottery have chosen 4 other projects elsewhere in the country to take part in the 2018 ‘Peoples Project’ and BELP is the only one in the Tees Valley area to be chosen.
BELP would like to create a space that everyone can access for ‘Young’ and ‘Old’ alike that will provide the opportunity for community and personal development. If they are successful the funding will be used to create a sensory garden with full disability access, they will complete the Chicken area to go alongside the Community Orchard, Faith Garden, Children’s/Adult garden, Labyrinth, Community Classroom and Kitchen. The funding will also allow BELP to complete thirteen small allotments for the local residents and establish a horticultural training area to teach people to become self-employed gardeners.
This will open up the opportunity for people to learn about and grow fresh food and will create a space for young and old to meet and work together.
ITV are coming to the Community Garden on Monday, 12th March at 11 a.m. to film and learn more about the project. BELP have asked for local people and the school to support them with this project and in order to do this class 3 children and staff will be going to the Community Garden next Monday. The children will need to wear warm clothes, coat and sensible shoes.
The children will be leaving school at 10.30a.m. and will return to school for lunchtime. They will be walking to the Community Garden accompanied by Mrs Caraher, Mrs Burns and Miss Donoghue.
If you would like your child to take part in this activity please sign and return the form below. Please also indicate if your child has a medical condition that school should know about and let us have an emergency contact number.
As ITV will be filming this day please could you give permission below for your child’s photograph to be printed in the media.
