Description of Project

Amplify is a regional youth work project operating in disadvantaged and polarised communities across 11 Northern Ireland Council areas (60% targeted) and the 6 border counties of Ireland (40%). Working with partners and local communities we will engage and connect 960 marginalised and vulnerable young men and women aged 16 – 24 years in meaningful, purposeful and sustained contact to reduce isolation and segregation and to build positive and effective relationships through socialising, learning and playing sport together.

Targets

To recruit, support and retain 18 young people from diverse backgrounds (80% retention and participation) aged 16 – 24 years, each year on personal development, good relations and citizenship programmes of 6 – 9 months duration, with up to the equivalent of 3 days contact time. 60 young people complete cross community programme and progress. (Downpatrick area and working in partnership with Holywood Trust, Holywood).

Core Purpose

To deliver and manage all aspects of Patrician Youth Centre’s contractual responsibilities in Peace 4 Project P1V 4016 – Amplify.

Job Responsibilities

PROMOTION AND RECRUITMENT

To promote, recruit and retain target number of young people and local communities within the council area.

To recruit using youth work methods:-

  • Networking with partner organisations, community based youth projects, young adult/peer education groups etc. within the area.
  • Direct contact with young people through street based, detached youth work
  • Information/induction sessions
  • Social media.

To network with, meet with and give presentations to statutory and other relevant agencies :-

  • to raise the profile of the project
  • to promote the project
  • to recruit young people ( referral) and
  • to identify and secure appropriate progression pathways for all participants.

To work with local partners (as named within the project application):-

  • to identify and secure local venues for delivery of the programme
  • to promote the project at local level and at local community events
  • to recruit young people from the local area
  • to identify and support volunteering opportunities
  • social media – forward 1 weekly news item for Facebook and Twitter
  • ensure “What’s On” section of website has current Amplify opportunities regularly displayed.

DELIVERY AND RETENTION OF PARTICIPANTS (80%)

To identify and assess the needs of individual participants to ensure a menu of options - appropriate training, support measures and work placement /volunteering opportunities is tailored to meet their needs.

Ensure young people are co designers of programme activities and learning outcomes.

Draw on existing partnerships and develop new networks to enhance recruitment and programme development.

Engage with key stakeholders to support young people (probation, social services, community leaders, Jobs and benefits etc)

To work with each participant to develop a personal action plan and to monitor and record progress toward achievement of personal goals.

Plan appropriate programmes incorporating personal development, good relations and citizenship.

Ensure cross community elements of programme and participation of young people.

Ensure flexible and well planned programmes to result in:

Consciousness: understanding of the negative impact of segregation and benefits of social connections between those who are seen to be different.

Attitudes: zero tolerance of violence & dissident / paramilitary activities including respect for diversity and motivated to improve relationships with others through social action.

Behaviours: increased mobility and integration with others who are different.

Skills: planning/ organising/ problem solving with others, mediation / compromise.

To deliver a suite of accredited training up to and including Level 1/2 qualifications (QCF) as required.

To undertake the assessment of young people’s portfolios for accreditation through awarding bodies (OCNNI etc).

To use the Youth Achievement Awards as the quality framework to recognise and measure the achievements and outcomes for all participants.

To liaise with the Quality Assurance coordinator within the Training Team to ensure delivery and assessment of programmes is in line with awarding body requirements.

Organise one to one mentoring and activities to enhance personal learning and personal capabilities of young people.

Organise residentials, cross border contact and activities for young people on a regular basis.

To provide post programme support to all participants (up to 6 months) to support them to’ stay on track’ and to monitor their progress.

To undertake Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult training when requested and implement in programmes.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

To record, monitor and update on a monthly basis all participant data (details, attendance records, one to one contact, achievements, progression etc) through Social Impact Tracker to meet the data requirements of the funders and the organisation.

To provide monthly progress reports against targets set to line manager and project manager.

To document and present examples of models of best impact practice including benefits, outcomes and outputs from the project.

To attend and actively contribute to quarterly self evaluation project meetings as part of our quality improvement process.

To link with and contribute to other initiatives within the Amplify project as required.

FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION

To report on the financial and programme activities of Amplify Downpatrick quarterly on EMS system.

To maintain administrative systems required to support the work of the project (raising cheque requisitions, purchase orders, plan ahead with administrative requirements).

To robustly manage and maintain participant details/expense records for monitoring and auditing purposes, following YouthAction’s procedures.

To work within agreed budgets, as laid down by Patrician Youth Centre Senior Youth Worker.

To comply with Patrician Youth Centre’s & YouthAction Northern Ireland’s financial procedures at all times.

GENERAL

To complete any other duties as directed by Senior Youth worker at Patrician Youth Centre.

To develop an understanding of the ethos, aims and objectives of the volunteering policy, strategy and plan of Patrician Youth Centre.

To complete any necessary reports, evaluations and accreditation documentation as required/providing regular progress reports.

To reflect the ethos, policies and practice of Patrician Youth Centre at all time (adhering to the youth workers charter) and demonstrate integrity, maturity and good judgement at all times.

Comply with Patrician Youth centre & YouthAction NI’s “Protecting Children, young people and young adults – policy & procedures, including good practice guidelines” at all times.

To become familiar with and adhere to PYC’s policies and procedures at all times

CURRENT TERMS & CONDITIONS APPLY

Salary: JNC Point 20 (2016) £28,566(professionally qualified) or unqualified rate

Location: Patrician Youth Centre,Downpatrick

Hours:37.5 hours per week

Holidays:22 days per annum plus appropriate statutory daysand

Hours of Work:These will require you to be available for work not only in the evenings but also, on occasions, on Saturdays and Sundays.

You will arrange your day to day working hours in conjunction with your Line Manager to suit the varying and often changing needs and requirements for the post. (Normal time in lieu arrangements will apply).

Travel:Mileage costs will be paid for travel costs incurred carrying out the duties of the post. (This post requires that you have access to a car or other suitable form of transport as and when necessary to facilitate the requirements of the job in a reasonable and effective manner).
