CLASS TITLE: ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS ANALYST

This is work analyzing and developing policies, procedures, practices, and methods for computer-oriented accounting systems.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

- Coordinates the operation of computer-based accounting systems, including the scheduling of computer runs and fiscal year-end closing procedures.
- Provides assistance to departmental management for operational problems of an accounting nature.
- Supervises the implementation of new fiscal operating procedures and accounting procedures required by changes in computer accounting systems at the department and/or district level.
- Assists in the development of requirements and reviews detailed specifications for new accounting systems.
- Develops departmental accounting policies based upon statutory law, court decisions, applicable state and federal regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Develops and prescribes departmental accounting principles, standards, and procedures and provides assistance to departmental and/or district personnel.
- Reviews documentation for computer-based accounting and accounting related systems for compliance with departmental accounting policies and procedures.
- Plans and conducts training for accounting staff in the operation of all accounting systems, use of computer-based accounting methods, and use of accounting codes and code structures.
- Performs related work as required.

- Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of computer systems principles and procedures.
- Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
- Ability to design and implement computer accounting systems.
- Ability to analyze and develop computer related accounting policies, principles, standards and procedures.
- Ability to analyze and interpret computer-related accounting data.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to computer accounting systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting and three years of professional accounting experience which must have included experience in computer accounting systems; or
- Three year of professional accounting experience with the State of Florida which must have included experience in computer accounting systems; or
- A master's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or possession of a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) certificate and two years of professional accounting experience which must have included experience in computer accounting systems.
- Professional or nonprofessional accounting experience or any combination of this experience and up to 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college education provided such education includes two courses in accounting can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required bachelor's degree.
