Southwest Showdown Tournament Information
- All games will be played under FIBA rules, with the following exceptions:
- No shot clocks will be used. Any team holding the ball for an unreasonable amount of time will be subject to a referee’s countdown in place of a shot clock.
- The break between quarters will be one-minute.
- Teams will be allowed two 1 minute timeouts per game.
- First overtime will be 2 minutes of stopped time starting with alternating possession. Second overtime will be sudden death (first team to score) starting with a jump ball. Teams will have only one time out for each OT period, unused TO’s from regulation will not carry forward. Personal and bonus fouls will carry over from regulation.
- Pool tie breaking procedure- if teams have identical records at the end of pool play head to head results will be considered first. If multiple teams have identical records combined point differential between the teams will be used as a tiebreaker.
- As a sportsmanlike gesture, no full court defense is allowed if a team is up 20.
- All games will be held at Swift Current Comprehensive High School- 1100 11th Ave NE.
- Teams will supply their own balls for warm-ups. The referees will ask the first team on draw to provide a game ball.
- Team listed first on the schedule will be designated as the home team and wear light jerseys when possible. They will also have choice of bench.
- Teams will be given a minimum period of five minutes for warm-up. Teams will warm-up before the first half at the opposite end from their bench.
- Teams will share change room facilities. Please remind your players not to leave any valuables in the change rooms.
Coaches, players, parents and fans are reminded that respectful conduct is required at all times. The young people participating in this event are here to compete and to have fun playing the game they all love. As mature adults it is our responsibility to ensure that happens. Please remind all associated with your team that disrespectful conduct towards athletes, coaches, officials, or other spectators will not be tolerated and will result in ejection from this event.
