1. Call to Order at 7:00 pm by the Chair.
2. Opening Prayer was offered by Fr. Carmona. The Chair proposed assigning an inspirational contribution to Council members on a rotating basis, as a means to center and focus the Council on the business at hand. The Council was in agreement.
3. Minutes: Alan Winkle moved to approve 8/21/13 minutes; Jorge de Varona seconded; motion carried.
4. Rector’s Report: Fr. Henry informed the Council of necessary changes following Fr. May’s resignation. Mass schedules will remain the same with assistance from Fr. Taylor and Fr. Montez. In addition they will help with sick calls and reconciliation.
5. Old Business:
Capital Campaign—Bobbi Dominick presented the Council with a statistical survey of contributors to the 2013 Capital Campaign. The Council discussed the relevance of the data, noting that there are 1430 registered families and that 86 donors contributed to the campaign who had not previously participated in the Centennial Campaign or offertory. Many other factors affect participation, but the data may provide the Council with one measure of progress related to strategic plan success.
6. New Business:
Ministry Leaders Meeting—Bobbi Dominick presented the Ministry Leaders Newsletter to the Council that will be distributed in advance of the 9/17/13 meeting. This meeting precedes the Ministry Fair on October 19-20. The leaders will discuss issues regarding participation, succession, follow-up and development, such as the newly formed Cathedral Women’s Connection. All ministry leaders are expected to attend.
Faith Formation Center—Bobbi Dominick updated the Council on the progress of renovations at the FFC. The center is nearly completed, awaiting SMART technical upgrades. These upgrades are critical to implementation of the new confirmation program, Y Disciple. An open house is scheduled for 9/14-15.
7. Planning:
Subcommittee Assignments—New members were assigned to planning subcommittees:
Daniela Ysursa/Gordon Pirrong – Goal 4, Ministry Strength
Gina Burns – Goal 3, Sacramental Moments
Current members of these sub-committees will meet with the new members to familiarize them with the various goal strategies prior to the next meeting.
Update on Goals—Bobbi Dominick presented a status update regarding Diocesan Goals, leading to a discussion of the St. John’s Parish Strategic Plan. The Council discussed the status of the strategic plan. The Council requested staff perform an assessment of goal implementation prior to the next meeting, so Council subcommittees and the Council, as a whole, can review plan progress and consider any necessary amendments. Bobbi Dominick informed the Council that this could be completed and e-mailed within two weeks.
8. Next meeting: 10/2/13, at 7:00 pm.
9. Adjournment: Alan Winkle moved to adjourn; Jorge de Varona seconded; motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Kerry Ellen Elliott
