Head Cross Country Coach
Description: The position is part-time. Responsibilities include administering all facets of the men’s and women’s varsity cross country programs such as recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, travel, practices,public and media relations and complying with all NAIA, Crossroads League, and institutional regulations and policies.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have a strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to serve others
- Previous coaching experience
- Commitment to the mission and goals of HuntingtonUniversity as a Christ-centered liberal arts institution
- Commitment to an NAIA program of intercollegiate athletics
- Evidence of communication, managerial, organizational and coaching skills
Responsibilities
- Administer all facets of both the varsity athletic programs
- Recruiting
- Adhere to all NAIA standards and regulations regarding recruiting
- Recruit student-athletes that are a good fit with Huntington University
- Meet roster goals established for respective sport(s)
- Submit weekly recruiting form to Athletic Director
- Budgeting
- Work in coordination with the Athletic Director and Financial Services to stay within established budget parameters
- Scheduling
- Schedule contests in accordance with institutional and NAIA guidelines for programs
- Supply athletic secretary with information regarding the contest schedule, transportation needs, meal and travel times, requests for cash advance, completed lodging arrangements
- Supervision
- Secure assistant coach(es) for the sport as approved by the Athletic Director
- Provide supervision of team by communicating team rules and enforcing them
- Oversee student workers/student managers working for the sport
- Organization
- Plan and organize practices and team trips
- Contact the athletic trainer regarding practices and contests and inform the trainer immediately regarding changes or adjustments to the schedule
- Prior to the first practice of the season be sure that all student athlete medical forms are submitted to the Athletic Trainer
- Process paperwork in a timely fashion
- Anticipate needs of the programs and works to resolve them
- At the conclusion of each season, encourage players to complete the online evaluation survey of the coach
- Arrange a post-season banquet or awards ceremony for the team
- Travel
- Comply with University transportation and safety policies
- Work with the athletic secretary to secure transportation for away contests
- Secure lodging and meals for away contests
- Submit all receipts and return excess funds to the athletic secretary within one week following the return from an away contest
- Public and media relations
- Submit team roster and player information to the Sports Information Director prior to the start of the season of play
- Report contest information to the Sports Information Director within 24 hours of each contest completion
- Nominate deserving athletes for All-Conference, All-America Scholar-Athlete, All-America, and other post-season awards
- Work with the Sports Information Director and Public Relations office to provide media information prior to and during the season of play
- Fundraising
- Fundraising is not a requirement by the institution
- All fundraising conducted by a coach or staff must be approved by the Athletic Director and the Office of Advancement
- All donations must be processed through the Office of Advancement and must be receipted
- Fundraising is designed to supplement an individual sport’s scholarship program, travel expenses, mission trips, etc.
- Spiritual development of student-athletes
- Serve as a Christian role model for the student-athletes
- Provide opportunities for student-athletes to grow in their faith
- Regularly attend conference and staff meetings
