1. Meldisco s preference is an elastic cord to secure a pair of shoes together, but 100% Cotton String may be used.
A. Elastic Cord - Two Colors: A WHITE/NATURAL colored elastic cord is required for Light colored shoes while a BLACK elastic cord is required for Dark colored shoes. If a vendor uses an elastic cord, TEN 1-foot samples must be submitted to Packaging Production/Marketing Services for testing prior to production. Once approved, the supplier will be added to buyer s approved vendor list.
B. Cotton String - Must match the color of the shoe as specified. All strings must have a minimum tensile strength of 10 lbs.(4.5kgs.)

2. If packing problems occur using elastic cord or string or if have any questions regarding this guide line, must contact the appropriate buyer.
3. If the product is on hangers, the string used to tie the shoes together must not extend beyond the heel.
PRICE TICKET -- Print SIZE (or + W ) in the size box on the front of ticket. -- Do NOT print Size on the Back.
1. Price ticket tags must be obtained through Avery Dennison (Soabar), Shoe suppliers will NOT allowed to produce their own price tickets. (Material: Tear Resistant Structure, the Size of the price ticket has been Reduced)
2. All price tickets will be applied to the LEFT shoe. (Per Illustrations# of Meldisco Manual for Placement)
A 3 (7.5cm) plastic fastener [or 5 (12.5cm) as directed] is to be used to secure a price ticket and hang tag to the left shoe.
3. The plastic fastener used to attach the price ticket to the shoe must be strong enough so that it does not break away from the shoe with a quick pull. A quick test is to hold one end of the plastic fastener and pick up the shoe, if the plastic fastener breaks or comes apart, it is too weak and a stronger fastener is needed.
4. Price ticket is not tied to the shoe laces or around a strap connected to a buckle which may be opened.
5. All information on the ticket must be checked for accuracy, this includes: Stock Number / Season Code /
Size (front) / Retail Price / Bar Code / Wide Width (if required). Back Side: SHOEMART Logo.
HANG TAG
All HangTags are to be secured to the LEFT shoe Behind the price ticket on the same fastener as the price ticket.
Hang Tags must comply with mechanical specifications provided by Meldisco. Only hang tags specified on Purchase Orders can be applied to footwear, if the specified hangtag is not appropriate for the shoe, comments should be received by Meldisco within 10 days of the purchase order place date. Packaging Production/Marketing services approval is necessary in any situation where 2 or more hang tags are on a pair of shoes.

BOX
1. All box separations for Meldisco shoe pair boxes will be sent from Meldisco, suppliers must contact Meldisco for this Film packet. The Die Strike supplied by Meldisco must be used, suppliers are NOT to create their own dies as these may be sized incorrectly unless Meldisco gives written approval. All information in the film packet must be followed exactly as specified, otherwise, boxes will be rejected if suppliers do not meet Meldisco requirements.
2. Box SIZES are listed on each P.O. This will be STRONGLY ADHERED TO because boxes that are too large cause unnecessary additional freight charges, boxes that are too small misshape, wrinkle, and/or bend shoes in transit rendering them unacceptable for store display. If the vendor would like to suggest an alternate size, they can submit this request to Meldisco within 10 days of the purchase order place date. Specified shoe box dimensions (Internal) are stated in centimeters and/or inches & specified on the film. Suppliers will be charged back for incorrect box manufacture.
3. Specification
(a) Board Weight: White Folding Recycled Bending Board

(c) Finish: Gloss Varnish (Do not apply to bar code label information space on panel).
(d) Assemble/Adhesive: Hot melt or latex gluing machines are preferrd. Automatic box assembly is preferred. Boxes may be assembled by hand, but this procedure is not recommended as hand set up boxes tend to be not squared properly. Stapled boxes or lids are NOT allowed.
(e) Cover Paper: If cover paper is used, use 53 lb.(24kg) coated one side litho with overall varnish as specified above.
(f) Construction: Important
Corner reinforcement TABS (for corner tear resistance) indicated on the die strikes MUST be used.
4. Box Information Label: Must have 2 preprinted labels containing stock number information applied to Each end panel in the stock number information area. The label should be aligned with the knocked out white space on the end panel as detailed on the box film. Label graphics should be oriented the same as the box end panel graphics to which the label was applied.
(a) The labels are preprinted with: (1) Illustration of shoe (2) Size (or +W) (3) Description (4) Style number (5) Bar-Code. The labels must be purchased through Avery Dennison (Soabar).
(b) 2-3/8" X 1-3/8" (6.05 X 3.5cm) - For any box that is 12cm wide or larger.
1-1/2" X 1-1/8" (3.81 X 2.86cm) - For boxes that are 11.5cm wide or smaller.
** If the length inside dimension is 36cm or greater, Meldisco will require 4 preprinted labels.
5. Peel And Stick Size Indicator - To be placed in the LEFT hand corner of one box end, so that the edge of the size indicator is flush with the side of the box. If a second pop-up peel and stick indicator is necessary, it should be placed on the right corner of the pair box, and not interfere with the pop-up size indicator in the left corner.
(1) Total dimension: 7/8 x 1-1/2 (2.2cm x 3.8cm) -- 2.2cmx1.9cm adhesive section & 2.2cmx1.9cm visible section.
(2) Material will be a 0.2mm (minimum) polypropylene.
(3) Size must be printed in black Avant Garde Bold 38pt. for regular width shoes and Avant Garde Bold 38pt. with the word WIDE in Avant Garde Bold 12pt. for wide width shoes on a White or Grey background (no color darker than PMS 428C) and can be purchased through Yuan Tay Printing Co. Ltd.(02-29571727 Contact: Chin Chen Lee)
6. Country Of Origin (Helvetica Type Face 12pt.)
(1) Shoes in a Route 66 Box should have the country of origin printed below the bar code label area.
(2) Any boxed slipper must have the country of origin printed on the bottom of the back panel.

PACKING
1. Stuffing -- Cardboard Filler, Tissue Filler, Stick Supporter, Cardboard Quarter Post Wrapper,etc., must be used to support the shape of the shoe, before it gets packed in a box or an eggcrate carton, unless otherwise directed by Meldisco Quality Control.
2. Procedure of stuffing tissue paper into shoes. (EASY PULL METHOD)
Using two pcs of Stuffing Tissue Paper into each shoe -- Steps: (1) Roll the tissue paper to a strip. (2) Cross the two tissue paper strips. (3) Fold over the two tissue strips to create a ball in front area. (4) Stuff the tissue ball into shoe s toe area. (5) Flat the tissue paper. (6) Wrap tissue paper between and around shoes. (7) Shoes are to be placed in the shoebox with the heel of the left shoe placed in the corner with the shoe size indicator tab. The sole faces the box side wall, this allows for tickets and hang tags to be visible. The right shoe is then placed in the box with the heel placed in the upper right hand corner of the box. (8) A package of approximately 1/10 oz.(2-3 grams) of desiccant such as Silica Gel is required, it may be enclosed before or after the shoes have been wrapped with the tissue filler. Do not use the Silica Gel packet which is marked with the Skull and Crossbone design, please continue to use Silica Gel packet but the only marking should be: Throw Away - Do Not Eat . Note: The Silica Gel or desiccant is to be placed inside of box, not inside of shoes.
*** Meldisco requires the Easy Pull method for removing stuffing tissue paper, sometimes on certain styles or sizes, it may require using only one small or large piece of tissue. Questions or suggestions can be addressed to Meldisco Quality Staff.
3. Hangers/Hanging Boxes - For hanging Beachwear & Slippers
Must use new Meldisco approved hangers and labels, which must be purchased from Rich China (in Hong Kong)
CARTON

a. Measure the dimensions with the carton closed. With the exception of minimum and maximum cartons, measurement tolerance to plus or minus 1.5%. Carton must not exceed maximum/minimum requirements.
b. For Infant/Baby shoes only, 6 or 8 PPK cartons, the width may be less than 9 minimum, however the height and length must meet requirements.
2. Use a top loading style carton.
A.Pack in one tier for solid cartons (carton type 900, all one size)
(1) When the carton is open, all shoe box ends are exposed.
(2) Box lids must be packed in the same direction.
(3) Carton Packing Configurations

B. Pack in two tiers or one tier for size run cartons
(1) When the carton is open, one full tier of shoe box ends are exposed for size runs.
(2) When packing in two tiers - Break the size run into two sections, use larger shoe boxes for the high run (pack in the lower tier) and smaller boxes for the low run (Pack in the upper tier).
(3) Box lids in each row should face in opposite directions to reduce the size of the carton.
C. FOR PRE PACK CARTONS
(1) If the Longest and Shortest surface is where the label is to be placed and that surface is where the opening flaps are, then the packing configuration is wrong and must use a one tier carton.
(2) Box lids must be packed in the same direction.

3. Eggcrate Cartons
(1) The corrugation used for the dividers must be of the same material as, or bear the same bursting test strength as, the carton itself.
(2) It is mandatory to use a Cover Board of the same material to be placed over the eggcrates before the carton flaps are closed. (No other material may be substituted.)
The Cover Board serves three major purposes:
a. Strengthens the compression resistance of an eggcrate carton.
b. Helps to keep the shoe clean by keeping the dust from them.
c. In the carton of vertical cartons when shoes are packed in two tiers, a Partition Board is required in addition to the Cover Board (both of the same size and material). The partition board is used to separate the upper tier from the bottom tier of eggcrates.
d. When cutting open cartons prevents shoes from damage.
(3) Type of Eggcrates are:
<1> One Pair Per Cell:
a. Horizontal cartons with only one tier of shoes.
b. Vertical cartons with shoes packed in two tiers in the carton: The half with the higher size run placed in one tier, and the lower half in the other. This will help minimize the total measurements of the carton.
<2> Two Pairs Per Cell:
Horizontal carton is the only type used to pack two pairs of shoes in each cell, unless the prepack is 24 pairs or more.

Adequate Closure of Cartons:
Step 1. Fold the inner flaps and close the outer flaps, bring the edges together to form a tight seam.
step 2. Run the sealing tape full length of the seam and extend not less than 3 inches (7.5cm) over each
end of the carton.
Note: both the top and bottom of the carton should be sealed in the same manner.

* 22 lbs per inch of width (4 kgs/cm width) means that if the tape is 3 inches (7.5cm) wide, the required minimum tensile strength is:
22 lbs x 3 (inches) = 66 lbs. [ or ] 4 kgs x 7.5 (cm) = 30 kgs
** The adhesive power test is generally conducted by peeling off the tape at a 180 degree angle from a stainless steel testing panel at the speed of 5 seconds per inch. Again, for the 3 inch (7.5cm) tape, the required minimum adhesive power is calculated as follows:
20 oz x 3 (inches) = 66 oz. [ or ] 220 g x 7.5 (cm) = 1,650 g (1.65kg)
B. Other Sealing Materials are NOT acceptable:

C. Illustrated below are the basic patterns of how tapes should be run on various weight categories or sizes. It is imperative that tapes used meet the specifications described previously in this section.

BAR-CODE CASE LABEL
1. Must be ordered from an approved Mledisco Carton label supplier: i.e. Soabar.
2. The placement of the specified barcode is very critical. If the label is not put in the correct location or there is tape covering part of that label, the product cannot ride the conveyor system and has to be processed manually. If any one carton has a bad label placement, the vendor will be subject to a chargeback per buyer s Inspection and Compliance Procedure.
3. Always apply the barcode label on the LONGESTSHORTEST surface, on the leading edge, bottom right hand corner of the carton. The placement of the label must be 2 (5.08cm) and 2 (5.08cm) from the Bottom and Right edge of carton. The only exception is the 6-pair pack for Infant/Baby top loading carton: Case label will be put on the Main Mark due to the shortest surface is not wide enough to accommodate the barcode label. If all surfaces are the same size, Case label will be put on the Side Mark.
