Our Class Learning
Last week we were very busy in nursery with our Halloween activities and learning about why we celebrate bonfire night. We learned lots of facts about what people do on bonfire night, how to stay safe, what we should with our pets and why sometimes bonfire night is called Guy Fawkes night. The children listened carefully to a simple version of the Gunpowder plot and were fascinated by the man in the funny hat! After the story all the children agreed it was a bad thing to try and do and we must respect the ideas of others and if we disagree we need to choose the right way to do things. We excitedly made our own Guy Fawkes and a bonfire (not real) and had chocolate sparklers and hot chocolate. A lovely time was had by all!
If you have any photographs of your children celebrating bonfire night that you would like to share we would love to see them. If you would like to email them across we can print them off. Please send any emails to: or
This week we will be continuing our bonfire activities. We will be creating different collages and using different materials to create our own bonfires, making firework pictures using marble rolling and making junk model rockets. We will also be thinking about rhyming words and creating rhyming rockets using pictures, i.e. cat, mat, hat, rat. ‘Room on the Broom’ , ‘Funny Bones,’ and Meg and Mog’ took the place of ‘Goldilocks’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ (based on the children’s interests last half term) last week, so we will be reading these books this week. If you have these stories at home it would be great if you could read them or perhaps find them on YouTube. We will be encouraging the children to retell the stories and talk about the characters and the settings. Later on this week we will also be talking to the children about Remembrance Sunday and why people where poppies.
Messages to Parents
Home-School Learning
If you have been to a bonfire or seen the fireworks in the sky, you might like to draw or paint a firework picture with your child. There are lots of bonfire ideas on Pinterest. We will be continuing to make marks to represent number this week and for the children who are ready to record numerals we will be using them to show how many in a count. You might like to get your child a clipboard or a note book and ask them to see how many cars of a given colour they see on a journey to school. When they see a car, they make a mark and then count the total.
Please feel free to email any photographs of your child counting or completing activities with you, to or and add it to your child’s home school book!
Home School Books
Thank you for sharing your home -school books with us. We really enjoy seeing what the children do at home. Please continue to add to your child’s book and have fun doing so. At the parent’s meeting we will be giving you lots of fun ideas to help develop your child’s mark making, pencil control and maths. If you do any of these things please take photo graphs and add them to their books or EarlyEssence.
Early Essence
You should all have a log in for Early Essence now to track your child’s learning journey. We apologise for the delay with sending these out unfortunately there was a technical issue with Essence. We look forward to seeing some parent contributions on Essence and please feel free to let a member of staff know if you have any issues with your log in or you require any support.
30-Hour Places
If you are currently claiming 30 hours in nursery, please make sure you renew your code. Unfortunately, without renewing your code (they need to be updated every three months) you may risk losing the 30 hour place, you will not receive a new code but it will renew your current code ensuring that your place remains. Please feel free to speak to a member of the nursery team or the school office for any support with this.
Parent Meetings
Key worker meetings start this week. Thank you to all of the parents who have made an appointment. These meetings will take place in nursery. You will notice in our cloak room there are sheets on the wall for each key worker. Please put your child’s name next to a time slot that would be suitable for you to attend. Please feel free to speak to a member of staff if you cannot attend any of these times and we will try to find a mutually appropriate time to meet.
Voluntary contribution
Thank you to everybody who has paid the £1 voluntary contribution last week. Your valuable contributions have paid for items to make chocolate sparklers, new goal posts and items for the home corner for mathematical development. Great fun has been had by all with the goals!
Learning Together and Library
This week we will be having our ‘Learning Together and Library Session’.
Every Wednesday is library day and our ‘Parent Learning Together’ session. This is 9:00-9:30 and 1:00-1:30.
