CoreLeadership Program
ThecorecurriculumforsupervisorsconsistsoftheIntroductoryModule(commontoboth middlemanagersandsupervisors)andfivesubsequenton-line modules corresponding with the NCWWI Leadership Model. Learningactivitiesincludepre-learninginpreparationforeach ofthe fivemodules(followingtheIntroductoryModule)aswellasinstructor led real-time discussion sessions for graduates of each module.
IntroductoryModule:Thismoduleprovidesacommonfoundationand coverscoreconceptscoveredinmore depthinsubsequentmodules.Italsoprovidesanopportunityforpeople toself-screenandmakeadecision onwhethertheyarewillingorabletocommittoparticipatinginthe Academy learning experience.
FoundationsofLeadership:Like goodsocial work practice,effectiveleadershipbeginswithself- knowledge. This moduleincludesleadershipprinciples,amodel and competenciesspecifictochild welfare.Bybecomingawareofhowcompetenciescanbedeveloped, participantscanstarttocharttheir ownleadershipdevelopmentjourney.
LeadinginContext:Partnerships:Toimproveoutcomesforchildren,youthandfamiliesweneed tobuildcollaborativerelationships.This moduleprovidesanopportunitytodevelop the leadership competenciesneededtocreatepartnershipswith families, youth and communities.
LeadingPeople:WorkforceDevelopment:Knowledgeableand supportivesupervisorsarecriticaltoworkforce developmentand retention.Inthismodule,wewillexploreworkforceissuesand presentpromising approachestorecruitment,selection,developmentand retentionofstaff.
Leadingfor Results:Accountability:Inaneraofincreasingemphasisonaccountabilityinchild welfare,informationmanagementskillsare becomingcriticaltosoundchild welfarepractice.Atthe same time,supervisorsneed toknow howtoachieveabalancebetweendataand people. Inthismodulewewill explorethe roleofthe supervisorincreatingaknowledgeculture,promotingaccountabilityand using datatoimprovepractice.
LeadingSystemsChange:Goal-Setting:Theabilitytolead and model commitmenttochange isaninvaluablesupervisorycompetency.Inthismodulewewillexploreconceptsrelatedtochange management,technical/adaptiveproblemsand leadingstaff throughthe changeprocess.This modulealso providesanopportunitytosynthesizelearningfromearliermodulesand participateinactionplanning.
